And I think there's a 24 hour limit on how far back a timeturner can go. Because otherwise I'd get a headache at the idiocy.

Them getting in there was supposed to be a big thing, but seriously, they waltzed right the fuck in.

I know! There weren't even any magical alarms or anything!

Have these Wizards never played even a single session of Dungeons and Dragons? Do they have absolutely no concept of what a secure vault is?

At least when they break into Gringotts it's shown to be mostly pure luck rather than everything else, and even though the defenses there are horribly contrived and inefficient, at least there's something there, rather than a big unprotected room full of time machines next to another room that contains a door into the afterlife. This is the kind of shit you actually, you know, protect.

The time necklace didn't disappear they clearly stated that she had access to it for that one year of schooling and that its usage was monitored. Since she informed Harry of the device, she forfeited who loan agreement and the privilege was revoked. They also state that time travel, in general is against the law and that it was a 'WTF' moment that Hermoine was allowed to use one.

So why didn't the Government just use a Time Turner when Voldemort first appeared, go back in time to, say the first place he is publicly known to be and zap the shit out of him?

Ethics and moral compulsion.

And possibly, didn't think of it.

Moral compulsion? About dealing with what is unequivically the most evil, dangerous and mass murdering fuckwad to ever live?

This isn't some random purse snatcher we're talking about. This is LORD FUCKING VOLDEMORT. There is no worse possible situation, this is it, the worst possible situation.

And you're trying to tell me that out of hundreds, no, thousands of highly intelligent trained wizards, at least some of which were specifically trained in combat and anti-dark arts. No-one ever thought "Hey, we could totally solve this entire problem because WE HAVE FUCKING TIME MACHINES."

And wait, there's no moral issues with giving a high-schooler a TIME MACHINE so she can get to her classes on time, but going back in time to ensure that the man responsible for murdering thousands of innocent people and terrorizing millions doesn't get to play Hitler is unacceptable?!?!

Oh god, my poor brain, it just made a run for the border.

If there is, it's not mentioned in the book.

I know. But my head hurts if I don't justify it.

Also, by the point people honestly believed Voldypants was back, the timeturners had all been destroyed by 16 year olds who managed to get into a place that apparently contains the mysteries of the universe without so much as a security checkpoint.

That may not help your head.

A quick check also reveals that the Harry Potter Wiki doesn't contain any mention of a limit on the Time Turners.

If there was one, i'd expect it to be there.

Also the 'not being allowed to see your past or future self' part is just silly. If i appeared in front of myself right now i would be all like "What the fuck" and all my future self would have to say is "Oh hey, we get a time machine next week. Don't sweat it." I sincerely doubt i would go insane from that.

I'm even less likely to go insane if i'm already aware of the time machine and run into my future self. The conversation would probably go something like "Sweet, it works" "Yes it does, and it is awesome!"

Academic use and what would amount to political assassinations are not equitable.

If it wasn't 3:30 in the morning I could probably find one of the argurments why it would be bad to kill hitler, if you could.

AND the fight in the MoM was a trap set by Lord Voldy. So not only did the teens have means to get in, they also had a prep fight area that probably made it an ideal killing ground for the punk nose kids. Why would Lord Voldy set up a trap in MoM and not disable the alarms?

It's actually a pretty good example of how all stories have been told before.

Now, I want to make it clear that I do agree with you, first off. Anyway. I'm keen to see some examples.

@Jude:
You have a rather sanitized version of what Native Americans were like, not that the genocidal Indian Wars were justified by any means.

Things went south after the Jamestown Massacre.  Perhaps all Native Americans were judged unfairly for the actions of a few, but more than a few had blood on their hands, both from the colonists and each other.

The practice of scalping, of cutting off the scalp and keeping it as a trophy, comes to mind as not particularly rooted in love of man and nature.

When did I ever say anything like "Native Americans were perfect and innocent and never did anything bad"

Also, not that it really matters, but the practice of scalping was originally European

In any case obviously the movie could have been more subtle about it instead of portraying one side as completely good and the other as completely bad but let me reiterate my whole point, which is that nobody seems to get that other than putting all the nasty people onto one side, the movie is an entirely realistic representation of things humans do to each other all the time and often for reasons far stupider than extremely valuable metal

That is basically Antagonism, any antagonist represents that. And to some extent Dances with Wolves had this message. But what made Dances with Wolves great but Avatar annoying?

Sir Knight!  I've just pissed my pants...and there's nothing anyone can do about it!

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.
