I've been messing around and adding entities things to my Masterwork world. Recently, while my human hero was visiting a village's well for water, he ran into a crowd of (fully geared) dark-elf prisoners crying for help, being driven along by their grey dwarf captors. He offered to free them, and the dark elves suddenly decided that they were free and joined my party. My company of three grey dwarf mercenaries ended up being supplemented by 10 dark elf wrestlers and an arquebus-bearing master crossbowelf. We easily overwhelmed their former captors. Later, we ran into another group of prisoners, but this time when I took the initiative and ambushed their captor, the prisoners panicked, perforated my hero with crossbow bolts, and then fled after wounding most of my party. I guess they thought that we meant to kill them all. The hero's adventure ended when visiting a dwarf fortress that had been claimed as a base by a fledgling necromancer. The undead hordes decimated his party and he plunged his body into the magma forges to avoid service in undeath.

Maybe the giant alligator managed to kill a lot of people in world-gen, and so it seems a greater success than it was?

Impressive. Think I've only had an NPC respond with the "Excitement! Adventure!" line once before. Forget exactly what I did to earn such enthusiasm that time. :P

Also, that mead hall has a helluva lot of books.

Found a cavern entrance at the edge of a human town. Not sure if that's something that's supposed to happen, but it was pretty damn cool either way.

-snip-
194 pages dedicated to someone eating a rabbit. In "Amazeblaze".

That's gotta be some book.

Anyways, as for the "Excitement! Adventure!" phrase, I believe it's tied to the personality of the person being asked. If you mod the creature's "adventurousness" or whatever it's called (might just be excitement-seeking, I don't recall the personality aspects very well) to have a high upper bound and the bring the lower bound up closer to the max, you can recruit pretty much the whole species even as a nobody because everyone is so damn hyped to go die somewhere on an adventure.

My headcanon is that it's actually a picturebook, where 161 of the pages are just ASCII art, and the rest being actual info.

you could do one better and make an interaction/syndrome that effects this trait which allows one you just recruit just about anyone that isn't tied to a noble position or a guard.
though having an 'convince other to join' interaction or drug seems only good if you tie this with teaching talking so one could teach this to animals, and get pets.

in weird stuff I been doing lately : uhh slowly working on adding npc militia to these adv campsites, and ended up discovering to do so I need to make the adventurer a lord/lady of the camp, change some flags inside the world site data on(the fortress and capital flags), then and only then could I fill up a campsite with randomly generated units, now there some chances I don't need to do all these steps and can refine it down, but at this point it's how I got the game to give me randomly generated npcs for the camp.

there still the issue of the weapons which I guess is tied to the entity and needing to say make sure the new Civ the adventurer made also gives folks weapons.
in testing this I led a camp to pick up a bandit group and ended up getting infected roaming militia so now the 40 or so humans I dfhack in are now fist fighting zombies and getting infected and fist fighting each other. and there something brutal about how these corrosion zombies causes the person who they bite to go in a berserking state to murder the biter then turning their sights on everyone else.

Been playing a gorlak bard for a while now, it's been interesting. Gathered a sizeable performance troupe, which I named "The Unseen Roads". Now we're traversing the continent, bringing joy back to kingdoms made jaded by centuries of conflict. One problem though...my troupe has a tendency to bicker. A lot. I've had to break up a few fights after arguments between members got out of hand. Guess that's the price of recruiting from many distinct civilizations. Wonder if it's a coincidence that the elf has taken the most beatings by this point.

It's the price of working with actors.

Ayy, its agent based emergent gameplay this is exactly why toady wanted people to have personalities that are effected by their cultures so that the clashes do happen.
