Rats stole meh spoon!
« on: May 27, 2008, 10:34:00 pm »

This is likely a pointless and overall dumb idea, but how about rats go around and steal random crap around the fortress, clothes would be ripped up while being lugged, bones moving around, and if the rats get numerous enough they will even start running off with bags and barrels. All this stuff is accumulated into a rats nest in some low traffic area within the fort.

I mean this would be a rather entertaining mini-disaster... Imagine seeing a barrel just seemingly move on its own.

That could be problematic, seeing as vermin don't have much in the way of pathfinding. They kinda just "Phase" around the map. I'm sure we have all seen a turtle suddenly appearing next to a stream, then the next second inside your flooded lower levels.

So imagine a rat ka-porting into a soon-to-be-filled magma channel with a barrel of beer. Not good for those floodgates made to control the flow of lava.

And I don't want my artifacts warped to the outer edges of the map for kobold thieves.

Buck up friendo, we're all on the level here.
I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I have no problem with Pests being more annoying then they currently are (which is not annoying)

Ey... just one of those random ideas...

Still,it would be interesting, and as neon pointed out, this would give some incentive to hunting down these things.

I know it is planned to make rats dangerous to dwarven health but I had to throw this idea somewhere.

It's in the devnotes that vermin will eventually eat food and infest stuff.

Or perhaps they'll eat some magic toxic sluge and grow sentience.
