In Space - Interactive sci-fi and horror story?
« on: March 23, 2010, 07:06:40 am »

//***WARNING: Detailed gore scene incoming!***

You open your left eye... and then your right, the light not strong enough to make your sensitive eyes hurt.

But you lift your left hand to cover your eyes... and a gasp escapes your mouth as your notice that your hand is red.

Blood. Blood coats your hand, epsecially at fingers. With terror, you lift your other hand.

Even more blood.

You try to stand up but your spine and ankles send overwhelming waves of pain. Instead, you look around...

Bodies. Bodies of many people, in different, colorful suits. Men and women alike. Suddenly, you remember where and who you are.

You're on the bridge. Of your own spaceship.

You're it's captain.

You take another look around. Few of the people were shot. Others looked like something, or, you suspect, someone, tore their throats, bitten their necks or shred their chests.

The amount of blood, that smell make you sick, but you resist the urge to empty your stomach.

The bodies too have blood-coated hands. Some of them, even their mouths, bits of flesh between their teeth.

When you get a thought that propably whole crew fought among themselves using their hands and mouths... when you think that you propably shred someone's flesh...

With a gurgle, you lean to the left side and a second later, your stomach is empty.

You look through the main, Kauher's glass window of the bridge - the ship isn't moving, but you clearly see metallic debris in the space around. You hope it's not of your ship.

You look around the bridge - your head hurts - but you finally recognise the navigation systems panel, blood splattered on it. Then, your own, command panel, suprisingly intact and without blood on it. It's in front of your seat, behind which you lie, in the pool of blood.

What have happened? Are you the only crewmember alive?

It's time to get up and find out what happened...

...In Space.

//It's the beginning of dark story. But, you decide what the anonymous (for now) captain will do. Will he manage to survive? Or his fate is already doomed?

We will see ;)

Yes, it will be more of story and details rather than gameplay, but still :P

If your stomach or mind can't stand such gore, please go away. On other hand, you're propably past butchering kittens and foes alike in Dwarf Fortress, so such scene like above shouldn't make you even twitch :P

You mutter "What the hell happened." No one responds to your words. The ship doesn't have real security room or even controls besides laser turrets panels, so you you have to use your command panel. You manage to drag yourself onto chair and sit onto it.

After a bit of stretching you can check your wounds. Your head and hands are fine (if not all that blood covering). Your chest is mildly scratched and bruised. However, your lower body and left leg give you pains - and the pain in right leg is even more harder, it might be broken.

You look at the command panel. It's a computer screen and the input is simple - you just type in commands.

Your head hurts when you try to remember some of them.

You examine your leg. After a while of touching and moving the feet, you're pretty sure it's broken ankle.

You take a glance over the bridge. For sake of completeness, you count bodies. Five people. Two women and three men. Black uniform, two black with white stripes. One person in dark blue uniform and the last one in light blue clothing. You can't remember exactly the color coding of uniforms, but that's not important to you now.

After that, with a sigh, you type several random commands. What you get in reply is:

Code: [Select]
Invalid command.
However, when you type help...

Code: [Select]
Hello, Captain Mark Hallmark. You disabled help menu and command list at stardate 61LE/11/24.13:20
Please type in the password you have provided when you disabled help menu.

You don't remember the password. Your head hurts again when you try to think about it. At least you know your name now.
You cancel the operation and type com:

Code: [Select]
Communication and messaging main link opened.
***WARNING!***
Several problems found.
-Interstellar message relay is not working.
-Main message and communication computer is malfunctioning. Expect data loss.
***WARNING!***

Please specify command.
-?

You try to remember... and you quickly type in '-broadcast'.

Code: [Select]
Ship broadcasting message system online.
Please specify the message:
_

I vote against broadcasting anything right now. The two most likely causes I see:

A) If it was caused by aliens, they'll know they left somebody alive.

B) If it was caused by some sort of plague, we really don't want anybody else coming. At worst, they'll rescue us but spread the infection, dooming humanity. At best, they'll incinerate our ship.

You begin to type the message, but after a while, you began thinking if that's a good thing. Soon, the firghtened part of mind lost (2:1) and you typed 'Help!'

Soon the ship speakers broadcasted the message. For a while, there was silence, but after few seconds, there could be metallic clanking, as if some badly constructed robot, was coming closer. Due to the doors on the back of the bridge, you don't know who's coming. Maybe some of androids weren't destroyed.

Or maybe it's something not so good at all.

You start to panic. Your heart start beating faster and you followed your latest idea - you lie down and half-close your eyes, hoping that the thing that's behind the door is dumb.

With a hiss, the left door opens and a humanoid shape moves in.

"You calle- -or help, Capta-- An---id Amazon re---ting for dut-"

The robot saluted after his static-filled speech. The salutation wouldn't be anything strange, if not only his head wasn't tilted to his right side. In fact, he looked more like after crash-test dummy rather than a working android. He moved closer and his eyes looked down, as he is unable to move his neck. Niceties of thermal sensors, perhaps.

"What a-- --ur --ders?" The android saluted again, blinking with his eyes, his smooth metallic surface bearing only a dark blue stripes.
