PaperClip: I think we talk about embarking on a journey to the location, not disembarking from our wagon when we're there.

Unless you're talking about something else.

'Yeah, my hunter can beat up a pack of seven wolves. He's awesome!'

*one dead hunter later, another fort*

'OH MY GOD A WOLF GET AWAY.'

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Thinking two squads of Marksdwarves could clear about 40 carp-infested pools that were separated by only one space.

Well, it's not very exciting embarking on a journey to a volcano covered in giant cave spider silk isn't very exciting, but disembarking there might be joyous. In a lot of instances embark would be correct but I think disembark could be used a lot more around here.

Surely skeletal carp are less dangerous than normal carp.

Think skeletal carp is still water-bound.

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.

Undead carp really aren't all that dangerous. Making them amphibious takes away one of their two major threats; drowing and numbers. They're only size 3, so when you're fighting them on dry earth, they're pretty easy. Sturgeon, on the other hand, I'm pretty sure are bigger than bears.

common mistakes in dwarf fortress?

Well, one time I embarked with not one, not two, but sixteen cats.
