Age of Juche, a Tabletop RPG
« on: October 09, 2009, 12:27:20 am »

I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.---Albert Einstein

The oppressed peoples can liberate themselves only through struggle. This is a simple and clear truth confirmed by history.---Kim Il Sung

In the nuclear wastelands, World War IV is being fought. The Capitalist Coalition are assembling against the People's Pact. You are a tinpot dictator, installed by one of the alliances in order to rule over a small territory. But you have grander ambitions than to be a plaything of neo-superpowers.

You seek to have your entire community be self-reliant and freed from imperialistic forces, to be instead guided by your own hands. You seek to become hailed as a Great Leader with unlimited power and control. You seek to have your entire community, nay, the entire world, praise and glorify you.

Most importantly...You seek Love. And you're going to get it, no matter what.

Because of the immortal feats he has performed for mankind, his extraordinary intelligence, outstanding leadership ability and lofty communist virtue, the great leader is supported and boundlessly revered by the people.---Kim Jong Il
***
Rules are an adaption of AoR to Tabletop. More concerte rules will come later, this is just for flavor.

EDIT: Man, it's hard to find quotes from Kim Jong Il and Kim il-Sung. Much less quotes that actually makes any sense.

Um. I don't actually plan on playtesting this yet. I just want advice on how best to make the rules, so that it may be a Tabletop RPG that can be played via tabletop. If you can help out in that, that would be great.

Also, few things I forgot to mention: "Terrian Tiles" for each Team are randomly generated via dice rolls, you are allowed to trade with both the Opposite Team and your Superpower, Factions can own Military Units and launch Military Coups to overthrow Leaders, and any Player who has his character dies will easily have his family successor take over (but will lose 1 Renown).

EDIT: Should I move this over to that Creative Writing Forums?

A trail run could be very informative so long as everyone knows that it is just a test and the rules can be changed without warning and that it may be restarted as soon as you are comfortable with it...

I would suggest having some sort of default turn in case someone can't post for some reason, maybe maintain upkeep and spend everything else on food or something...

Maybe I have to do a test, but not right now at least.

Anyway, since this is "loosely" based off the Korean conflict (in the same way that the Celestial Empire is only "loosely" based off ROTK), how should I account for the "Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo"? It is a proposal made by Eternal President Kim il-Sung which basically unifies North and South Korea into a federal republic with two divisions: Socialist North Korea, and Capitalist South Korea. The federal government will be composed of equal numbers of represenatives from both North Korea and South Korea that will handle "political affairs, matters of national defence, foreign affairs and other matters of common concern related to the interests of the country and the nation as a whole". Oh, and "Koryo" would have a unified national army too.

The much derided Sunshine Policy used the DFRK proposal as a launchpad to basically provide for improved relationships between North and South.

Basically, should this proposal be included?

On how do I handle the DFRK idea that Kim il Sung promoted as a way to reunify Korea?

I think I won't handle the Koroyo mess. Mostly because Age of Juche deals with the early Cold War period, and Kim only made that proposal in the 1970's, after he created the Personality Cult and 'won'.

I'll still work on this in prepration of a playtest.

FWIW, from reading your rules, this isn't really an RPG. It's closer to a wargame.

That's not a bad thing; wargames are awesome. But if you want to make an RPG, you may want to rethink a lot of your rule set; if you want to make a wargame, keep going because it looks promising.

If it is going to be a wargame, I need to make rules on assigining army units to each player...

I also realize I need to study the South Korean dictatorship as well to provide flavor for the Capitalist Coalition puppet government (since this isn't just going to represent NK craziness). What ideology did the South Koreans have?
