Medical Suppliers?
« on: April 02, 2010, 09:15:57 am »

It appears that elves are now the biggest medical suppliers, offering hundreds of splints and crutches. What's next, they offer special poultices and tourniquets?

Do they bring Gypsum Powder, too? It's the one medical thing I haven't been able to make yet

Since this is a healthcare thread I'll ask. Anyone figure out who makes traction benches? Carpenter's and Masons do not.

What exactly are traction benches used for? I'm a bit low on knowledge of healthcare.

Mechanics make the benches. You need a table, a mechanism and a chain.
It is used for dislocated(?) or broken bodyparts. At least in RL it was

Yes, I would assume that it would be used in the treatment of broken and/or dislocated body parts, as I know there is a similar device used to set a break of the femur, as the muscles in the leg around the femur have a tendency to pull the two halves completely out of alignment- almost side-by-side. I, however, thought that it was used for torture or something in a manner similar to the rack.

in RL all I can find is a workout machine which looks very uncomfortable.
Is a traction bench for dwarves anything like this?

I'm loving this healthcare system. Just had my first dwarf who needed a surgery. A bad case of broken skull.

I had a dwarf who needed surgery. He kept on moving while the Doctor was working on him, interrupting it. Then he succumbed to infection because I couldn't get a Soap Industry working quickly enough. An important lesson was learnt on this day.
