Capture a Spirit of Salt.

Throw them in a pit together.

Laugh when the Spirit of Salt kills them and tries to kill you, but is made of salt.

Put them in a rock salt maze with rock salt floodgates randomly slamming shut to complicate things.
Once you get more, keep at least three in there at all times, but take some out until you have a good herd of slugmen ready to defend you. Oh, and see the cow breeding thread for more ideas.

EDIT: Double salt-ninjad!
