According to a reply of the Toady One to Gnomeblight, probably nothing at the moment. But it might be part of a yet to be iplemented extended potion system. Nevertheless I'm still waiting for the Alchemist noble to show up (with a second cave spider caught and caged) to look whether he might make any difference.

Oh btw, as my bookkeeper finally showed up: the base value of cave spider venom is only 20$ per unit.

Just tested it: Rope reed can also be processed  into a thread at the Farmer's workshop. Those elves no longer have the monopoly for rope reed cloth!

>which means that sugar is for suckers since you get 5 times as much food from syrup.

By that logic, plump helmet stews are for suckers since you can cook corresponding alcohol. Bags are much easier to make than barrels, and you can actually make several portions of sugar from one sweet pod if your miller is good.

Cooking booze is probably a bug, though, and will get fixed eventually. I assume you're supposed to be able to cook syrup, although I think later on it will be made so you actually have to have some kind of "real" food to add the syrup to. I guess cooking wine might be possible the same way, though.

I haven't noticed any increase in yield from milling skill. I'm pretty sure millers can process a stack of sweet pods to end up with several bits of sugar at once, but it's still the same amount that went in. I have two dedicated millers, so they're up to Proficient and Skilled, but I don't really notice any significant increases in sugar (the way that much farming skill can double yields on average). I've seen bags with several units of sugar in them before, but I'm pretty sure that's from a stack of sweet pods getting milled together.

Well, while you can't really make a meal out of just booze, you can certainly use it for cooking.  (Wine in sauces, beer in stews, brandy to make flambe, rum cakes, etc)  But it shouldn't use that much of it compared to other ingredients.

Plump helmet is wine, sugar pods are rum. I think pig tails are beer and cave wheat is ale, but I might have those two mixed up.
