They are not actually "messing" with your registry, just adding stuff to it (once). You will find almost every program you ever installed has done that (some will do this on a routine basis during operation). This is why you have to reinstall windows every year for it not to run slowly.

This is wrong, just wrong, the reason it runs more slowly is because of broken registry keys, there are programs to fix that you know.

I realize this isn't the place for a discussion about it, so could you link to an article we could read about these "broken" keys?
