Heh, like some kind of bizarre exotic bird.

Are there more towns than the first one in MH1?  I've only been playing like three or four days and I'm already on the first 5 star urgent quest, which is to kill a Rathalos.  I still haven't seen Plesioths, Rathians, foobloses, and I'm sure plenty of other awesome monsters.  I've also heard these games have 100+ quests, and I know I haven't done that much.

Nope.

MH1 - offline town and online city
MHF2/MHFU - offline town, online pub in same town.

Pretty sure once you clear that 5* urgent, you unlock most of the monsters you list... if not, then at the 6* level.

There are pretty cool monsters past Rathalos. But some of them will make you angry, obviously.

... 100+ quests? Well, only if you count online and offline separately...

HH3- Moga Village for single player, some town for multiplayer.
Just thought I'd attempt to put this on the rails again :P.

Reminds me of the time where I hunted the monoblos 17 times without getting its heart. Then my sister goes in and gets it on her first goddamn run.

Hee. I got the heart the first time I killed it too.
'Course, took me about 5 tries to actually kill it. I'd get to 49.5 minutes and it still wouldn't be dead so I'd abandon. :/

Also yeah, try not to get stuck with a bad sharpness weapon at any point. Weapon bouncing off with every other hit = very not fun.

Why did you go with greatswords, if you don't mind me asking? They're the one weapon line (besides dual swords) I never really saw the advantage to. :/
SnS had running while drawn + dodging + blocking but really bad damage.
Hammers had running while drawn + dodging + good damage but couldn't cut off tails or block.
Lances had awful mobility but epic blocking and epic damage.
GS had awful mobility and attack speed but...good damage? Snazzy looks? ???

Heh, sounds like my issue with Rathalos Heavenly Scales and Nargacuga Heavenly scales.

I've sunk a very, VERY large number of G-rank Rathalos and only gotten a total of just enough Heavenly Rathalos Scales to make my G-rank Rath set (second-best GS set, used it when I was going for Rajang Set) and an extra HvnlyRthlsScl. Whereas I've gotten one Heavenly Nargacuga Scale for every two Nargacugas I've fought, I'm pretty sure; at least one for every two quests I've been on with one.

As for why to take the GS? Fatnormous damage. Good draw attacks, and you can roll out of the recover animations, and if you aren't out of harm's way by then you can block. Then you sheathe and repeat.

Eeeeeeee.... just got my email from Amazon saying the game's shipped! I'm unreasonably excited about this game.  ;D

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

:/ :/
Amazon.ca doesn't even have a listing for the controller bundle.
I'm going to have to go to futureshop tomorrow and hope they don't sell out of their 9 copies before I get there.
Gahhh.

I've heard the controls on the classic controller are pretty screwed up in some ways compared to MH1. For example, despite having 4 shoulder buttons and 4 shoulder button functions, they decided to only use two of the shoulder buttons and divide the functions between between quick press/hold.

I also heard that running no longer makes you automatically put away your weapon. It blocks or something instead, and you have to sheath your weapon manually in order to run. Small thing, but it's going to make me die. :/

Also new though: Gunners get an extra page of inventory especially for ammo, and SnS users can use items while their weapon is drawn! (yesss)

The shoulder button thing is probably some bizarre holdover control decision from the PSP versions, since there's only 2 shoulder buttons...

The SnS item thing was introduced in MH2...

The best bet, IMHO, is when you get stuck offline, go online for help or to farm items.

(Also, there's no bow in this game. That automatically means I will never touch a ranged weapon...)

Both have been the case since MH2.

Wait, scratch that - Monster Hunter Freedom 2 isn't a direct port.

But it's been there since at least that.

And my fatty item listing is almost done. XD

If you can master a bowgun, and don't get too stressed out using one, then use it! Everyone loves a ranged weapon user in MH. They're hard to pick up and play, but amazing once you've mastered them.

Example : (Warning: really loud and annoying music) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTOIoV9zgGE&feature=related
