My requests / suggestion to improve DwarfFortress
« on: September 29, 2010, 06:11:58 pm »

1:make liquid not be able to move on to a square which has more than it.
(or make it check which adjacent square has the least liquid and move there if that number is less than it has.)
2:have a "depth" stat on stones, so you can set how many levels underground a stone is found at minimum.

(explaining #1: say you have this map:
OOOO
O3 5O
OOOO
O being a wall and the numbers being depths of water. the water from the square of 3 could not move to the square of five, but the
inverse could happen.
i will post anymore ideas i have.
happy playing, everyone. and developing.

Here's a new one:
fix the thing where dwarves won't dum the last item/items selected for dumping until you reset the dumping.

Sort of like a sanity check on where the water is going to path, before the pathing/fluid dynamics occur? Is this a proposal for optimising fluids?

And the stone occurance depth.. Isn't that already handled in the raws?

I would like to add a suggestion.
Object handling improvement
As in, rather than passing every object at every cycle of the game, there should be a less ram intensive option. Ram can only read and write so fast. Don't have any idea's myself, anyone have some possible ideas about this?

yeah... once i got in to Dwarven Hell, there was all manner of lag as the 56 demons invaded my base... at less than one frame per second.

and an interesting idea is that, as well as "hell", about 100 levels up, there could be space.

i am also an active modder...
and flying dwarves doesn't work, as i tried it just for fun.
i believe it is a pathfinding thing, because even though the dwarves can fly, it doesn't think "open space" is a valid square.
(i did, however, make a floating city then send it plummeting to earth for fun.)
