I'm not really happy with this, it's no haiku, but it came to mind after the thread on using cats to explore caves. And a certain cat lovers optimism that it's not a death sentence for them all.

Maybe it's the style, it feels too forced for me, and the end is kinda iffy, and.... but then, we're our greatest critics.

Here it is, as someone might at least enjoy it.

Slaying horrific monsters
By throwing old socks.

Engraved on the floor is a well-designed image of a kobold and a carp.  The kobold is making a plaintive gesture.  The carp is laughing.

Something with the whole fort teaming up to bring down a forgotten beast, a grand feast, then two days later everyone's brains suffer necrosis.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

I have too much time on my hands, I saw this and immediately started to write.
If anything, this thread has told me that when it comes to poetic arts, I'm very rusty.

The adventurer
Lost in the womb of the earth
 Braves the evil dark

The haggard miner
Carves the mighty earth
With his pick of steel

The embark party
Create their own destiny
Braving the wilderness

The mighty titan
Primordial warrior
Ravages the world

These are some I thought up.

Hi!

Congratulations to Deathworks for the 100th post!

Oh, I hadn't noticed, thanks. Good thing it was the post with the haiku.

Yup, I agree with that.

Anyhow, as no one seems to know Japanese or wanted to oust themselves, here are the translations. As I said, they are not great poetry, so please don't be disappointed.

Goblins
have screamed.
Cat master.

Dwarves going
to a party.
The voice of a toad.

Notes:
"Goblin" (or actually "goburin") is not marked for plural or singular, which means in Japanese, it could be both. It could also be "The goblin(s)" as definite article is also not always needed.
The screaming is the negative screaming as in "screaming in agony".
"Cat master" is the closest I can get to the play on words/ambiguity of the last line. It can mean "the owner of a cat/cats/the cat/the cats", but it could also mean "the feline lord"

In the first haiku, I use goblins as a reference to winter (which is when their caravans come). Toad in the second haiku is a common reference to spring.

The first haiku contrasts the violence, negativity of the first lines with the calm, positive concept of the last line.
The second haiku contrasts the merriment and liveliness of the party-goers in the first two lines with the approaching death in the last line.

New addition to the collection...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As usual, there's a sig/avatar set in the album I linked to last post.

So Ledi's been training the cats into an army of disposable warbeasts?  Why did no-one think of this sooner?!
Hellcannon seemed to be constantly on the verge of death and Levergedon before my turn helped, but ultimately what killed it was Ledi's cat army.

!!Ale!! !!beer!! !!wine!!.
An endless sea of firey booze.
Dwarf heaven or hell?

I mean, on one side it's endless booze. Awesome.
On the other, it's all on fire. And the dwarves are in it. Ouch.

True, but at a certain velocity the resulting explosion expels invader-bits at fatal speeds. You don't want to be dropping trogdolyte-shaped shrapnel bombs into your boneworks.

Kobolds stealing socks.
Make many intricate death traps,
Guard stumbles on one.

Goblins Attacking!
Leader collapses. No legs.
Dwarves walk to safety...

The elves are burning.
Urist McMadScientist
Has solved wood shortage!

Nobles love parties,
But they seem so lonely there...
Release the Dragons!

"Sweetbread sounds tasty"
Just stick to the meat, Urist
Prepared cat thymus

Elves come in the Spring
Followed by a goblin siege
Hilarity ensues

Just a quick pinch here
And here, and here; teeth all over!
Elven dentistry

Large rat remains sit
Baking in the summer sun
The cats work too hard

Deep in the cavern
Dark, cold, muddy, forgotten
Big hungry nightmares

Wand'ring elephant
Gentle giant of the plains
Now it's full of bolts
