Hi!

I want to add some inspirational information about Haiku:

One rule for haiku is that you always have two concepts in them often clashing. Usually the two first lines contrast with the last line. This can be inactivity/activity, quiet/noise, but also completely different topics with not that much of a direct contrast.

Another rule that fits very well with dwarf fortress is that you have to include something referring to the season. For instance, in the famous normal haiku with the silent pond and the frog, the frog is a reference for spring.

I hope this can inspire even more interesting haiku.

Meheheheh. Rare is the forum where a haiku thread isn't ostracised, but added to constructively.

Dwarf Fortress: Good for society!

Devilish rampage,
Flaming, burning death-oh wait.

Forgotten Beast came.
Killed the good doctor Urist.
Now Remembered.

Troglodytes, spiders.
and forgotten beasts in caves.
Just wall it all off.

What,are you stupid?
I can't empty the bucket here.
Need a second floor.

Cave stretches off map.
Forgotten beasts spawn fairly often.
Dwarves never go hungry.

Hi!

I did have problems finding a short seasonal word, so I went by what we know thanks to traders:

Forging giant blades
For traps to kill the goblins -
Cute Kittens napping.

Troglodytes, spiders.
and forgotten beasts in caves.
Just wall it all off.

I was a fool and thought that a locked door would be sufficient. Then I started wondering how a troll could possibly be pestering my miners.

It took a while for it to occur to me that the troll had just busted down the door, and that the cave passage was now open. Three elk-birds later, to be exact.

Ballad of Stained Passages

Elk bird, why do you roam these halls?
Your wings mangled, and legs as well,
Only one of your horns remains,
That spat with the miner didn't end very swell

Blood and organs adorn the walls
and floors over which you travel.
The smell is not nearly as bad
as watching intestines unravel.

I thought you'd have bled out by now
but it seems that I've no such luck,
keep interrupting my farmers,
see if I give a fuck.

Why do my axedwarves not kill you?
I told them to finish the job.
Instead they just follow you 'round,
like you're pacing them for their jog.

Training axes don't pack much umph:
It is something you may have heard.
They're great for maiming though, just ask
The Squad of The Mangled Elk-Bird.
