...Spirit of Carp?
...Carp made out of Slade?

Tangential post!

The flaming zombie blowing up the booze stockpile made me ponder this: what if Fireflies (or other small vermin) were actually on fire?

Just a li'l red dot going around the fortress, occasionally landing on things and turning them into !!things!!.  If a cat catches and kills it, they may take damage.

This actually sounds familiar - is there a guy like this in the magma?

(note: I haven't played the new version yet - waiting for bug fixes + d# integration)

Are carp even dangerous in the new version?
10 carp versus sea monster.

Carp won, sea monster was torn in half.

Buh? I just tried this, and the sea monster won hands-down.

The only thing dangerous about carp in the new version, as far as I can tell, is that dwarves will stop attempt to dodge into the water.

EDIT:

Okay, sometimes the sea monster does lose, mostly because it spends too much time breaking the carps' grips on its body, and because the carp bites still manage to bruise organ tissue sometimes.

Yes, found that out the hard way.
Get one of your dwarf on fire, wait for him to take a drink from the booze stockpile...
BOOM!

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.

Booze explosions have always been a myth, and probably still are.

Tests would have to be done to see how they act in this version, but considering how widespread the rumor was even among people who did "test" it in the previous versions, I'd even take that with a grain of salt.

From a purely academic viewpoint I'd rather have zombie carp.

I lose less dwarves to the carp's actual attacks than to drowning.  If the carp want to come out of the river to fight me, well, I should lose less dwarves, right?
