♠ Fungi of The Caverns - A Field Guide ♠ (page 2 up!)
« on: April 23, 2010, 10:17:04 pm »

I've been wanting to do some DF art recently, so I had the idea today to illustrate the plants you would find in DF's caverns.  All we get right now is a little colored ♠.  The new release gave us some more neat plants to chop up.  To make that even more interesting, I'm going to draw all the plants you would find underground (trees and shrubs).

Note that I'm largely making these up as I go, considering that all I really have to go off of as far as appearance is the name and the prefstring :).

Enjoy and imagine :D.

Yee!

Are these based on the RAW size values?

Are there sizes in the raws?  TBH I'm just making the height whatever looks good (except for the tower-cap, which has prefstring "great size", so yeah.

They don't have a size value in the raws.

I'd think the tower cap would have a bigger cap to it though.

Whoops. No, there aren't, those are apparently just for creatures.

Ah, well.

Good touch making the dwarf a 'Mad-Cap'.

I'm looking foward to some of this, to be honest. Hopefully we can turn this into some big art thread of flora, fauna and everything which is neither.

...Elk Bird plz?

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I'm going to finish up the trees first, then do shrubbery (spelling?).   Personally I don't think I'm very good at drawing creatures, so if someone else is they can go crazy.  Hungry heads and elk birds should be all sorts of fun to draw!  :P

I can see that, maybe I'll go back and do revisions when I get through them all.

I drew this picture of tower caps a long while back. That was before all the new mushroom trees came out though so it might fit one of the others better.

ANyways, for the spore tree, it either makes me think of a tall fungus with a very wide and flat cap or a branching treelike fungus.

By that Reasoning, only fault should ever post art. But then we'd have only one person's art, and as good as his stuff is, it's still inferior to the variety of a whole community.

Pic related, it's a dimple cup.

You've seen the rate he can make stuff, though, right? That man is an art machine.

Fine, I'll look for a happy underground plant to draw.

Draw a plump helmet!

technically, they are underground plants.

Bonus points for Plump Helmet Men tending it.
