A gila monster demonic diplomat from Nombehal has arrived.
« on: April 25, 2010, 11:38:45 pm »

Kung Ustruorgu, Law-Giver
"Kung the Dead Grave"
Law-Giver, Male

A huge hairy gila monster twisted into humanoid form. It murmurs horrible curses. Its lilac hair is long and shaggy. Beware its poisonous bite!

He is skinny.

---
He arrived soon after a human caravan and has been causing chaos by destroying all types of buildings, including the Trade Depot.

He's not attacking anyone, but goes around destroying buildings. He's now stuck at a door, not moving. Trying to deconstruct the door right now.
Should I attempt to attack him?
No trained fighters at the moment, since I've been relying on cage traps.

Deconstructed the door.
Sure enough, he starts moving again, destroying.
Oops. There goes my dining hall.
And he gets stuck again. I'm leaving him there for now.

Safe way out: build walls around him while he's stuck, then fill in the room with water/lava.

Or try attacking him and find out the fun way what sort of poisonous bite it has.

Do both!

Build an arena and trap him in it, then pit your dwarfs against him.

Yeah, demon diplomats are borked right now.

Sometimes they'll chase brokers around to have a meeting with 'em, but be compulsively driven to destroy the office before the meeting can start and then terrify the poor broker so he runs off and then the diplomat chases him and stops to destroy everything in his way before resuming the chase.

...Very... Cartoonish wake of destruction.

He was stuck for a season or two, but he escaped again and caused handsome destruction.

Somehow, my dwarfs will not approach him when ordered to kill.

Will try to wall him in now.
Well, of course. Walls are down.

If you can't wall him, dig channels around him instead.

Bonus points if you cause a cave in that takes him down as well.

Gotta love friendlies with BUILDINGDESTROYER tags.  IIRC, pets with it cause trouble too.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

Got it. Will catapults do the job?

I find buildings destroying diplomats quite entertaining.

Also this:

demonic diplomat
It murmurs horrible curses.

Can you imagine how amusing the diplomatic meeting must be?

Urist McMayor: "Uh, err, h-hello --"
Kung Ustruorgu: "BE ENGULFED IN CLOUDS OF LOCUSTS AND EATEN ALIVE, MORTAL, FOR I BRING GREETINGS FROM TRADING GUILD. THERE IS MUCH TO DISSCUSS REGARDING TRADE BETWEEN OUR NATIONS AND YOUR INEVITABLE DEATH CAUSED BY HORIBLE MUTILATION OF YOUR PELVIC FLOOR.
WE ALSO PROPOSE EXCANGE OF SILK SOCKS, COOKIES AND TOYS."

Hahaha!  I'm remembering the guy who modded a trading race to give them firebreath.  They didn't outright chase people or anything, but it turns out firebreath isn't part of the usual friend/foe equation.  It's kind of...  involuntary...  And someone who modded goblins with building destroyer.  All hell broke loose when they brought in a *caravan* instead of a siege...

You can hit any creature with a catapult I think.  Build a field of statues for him to play with and aim your siege engines at it.

You're probably thinking of ballistas, which are indeed capable of killing indiscriminantly - catapults, at least in 40d, were only known to hurt hostile creatures.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Really.  So I can safely chain catapults single-file for a more dense 'blunderbuss' effect.  good deal!
