My god, Jagex have absolutely butchered my first MMO. I used to play this game in Classic, and now looking at it...

I'm seriously amazed at what they've done to it. They've actually ruined everything good about the game, in an attempt to draw in the kiddy crowds and failed horribly at it (at least that's what evidence shows). Seriously, look at what they've done:-
  • Removed any real PvP. (Wilderness used to be the main reason to play the game.)
  • Removed any real trading. (Trading is now controlled by trading clans with enough members to change the game's prices.)
  • Released a dungeon system that exists for the sole purpose of grinding out levels. What's the point in doing anything else?
  • Implemented a bunch of kid-inviting features, like censorship of chat for people under thirteen. Also, they're allowing people until 13 to join the game. As a general thing, they're loud-mouthed tits. (Although, that wasn't that different to your average free server player.)

Seriously, though, has anyone played this game recently? Jagex neutered everything that made it a decent game and have changed it into kiddy's playground.

Christ, it's gotten that bad?

I used to play it when it was good, when there was a free world, where you could do (mostly) whatever you wanted to.

Good thing I switched to Dwarf Fortress!

I remember my old Runespace days. Heh, I had numbers in my username. Long time ago. Like 7 years.I never played the game properly, IE, trade, get skills, be useful, I would sneak into ultra high levels area, or the endgame PvP zones, and savage loot and stuff, or I would just explore the world. Thinking back, it must have been hilarious when all the max level people saw me running around in their zone.

I'd never play Runescape again of course, unless all the 10 year olds and idiots left, but really the only thing that would have interested me would have been the trading, while I can't stand the normal grind of MMO's, I can stand the grind of making items to sell, provided I have something to spend my money on, which at the time, was outfitting my playerhouse. (I'd probably love EVE, I don't know) So, sad to see that go. Don't know why they got rid of PvP, that's just strange. Are those bizarre castle defense/attacking mini games still there? Those were actually very cool, if I remember correctly, with the traps, walls, potions, and other stuff. Don't know why I've never seen a system like that in another game before.

Last time I checked, the PvP is still there, and yes, those funny castle games were still there.  But I never got to play the minigames because I didn't pay.  Blargh.  I don't know what Pathos is talking about, with the neutering the PvP.

I used to play this. Got my account hacked, banned for macroing. Didn't even have internet because of a provider switch. 6 appeals and numerous IP checks later, they found out last login was from a notorious Runescape account hacker and that I definitely didn't macro.

Status of my account to this day: Banned

The ONLY PvP is the minigames. Even the "PvP" worlds they opened up are minigames. You can't loot what someone drops when they die, you get a specific amount of gear / money based off how much the stuff they were wearing cost. What's the point in that?

I always thought Castle Wars involved way too many people to be any fun. It was capture the flag with about 50 people on each side.

Castle Wars, yes, it was cool in concept however. And besides, this is what I can remember from 6 years ago. I've never looked into it since then.

Jagex Should Sell The Game

Damn, that thread almost has as many posts as some of my trolling threads on the WoW forums.

Ban Furry Clans

Oh, dear...

To see real constructive criticism of the game, check out here, since even certain rants on the Runescape Rants forum can get you banned.

I played until about a year and six months ago. It was very addictive and time consuming at first, and then a lot of the RL people I played with stopped playing. This was ok because I started subscribing and hung out with some people consistently, until they all quit because the wilderness and trade updates. I messed around for a little while longer, then just let the subscription run out. I've still got the account information in my accounts book, but it is no fun to play and I'd have to re-subscribe to use any of my stuff.

I used to play, also back during Classic.
I stopped because my computer stopped being able to handle it and my friends quit because of the PvP and trade restrictions.
I too, was angry when the Free Market was killed.
Saw it coming from a mile away once they started to crack down on gold farming.

To be honest, I don't even think they did it because of a crack down on gold farming, anymore. ( Especially since it DID NOT WORK. ) They did it to make the game more kiddy-friendly, because that makes all the little kiddies happy, and it was pretty much in the centre of a long time of changes to make the game more kid friendly.

Oh, yeah, and a Runescape developer / owner ( I think it was an executive, not sure ) said the game was for kids. >.>

There has been a bit of a backswing- they uncensored some less offensive words (crap, ass, presumably arse etc) but yeah, I quit ages ago. Still go on Funorb from time to time, but yeah.

Played it from basically the start- I was in there before rune was, as sad as that is.
