Dwelve Project
« on: May 01, 2010, 03:23:08 pm »

Dwelves are magical creatures enchanted by those (dirty stinky hippies) elves.
A powerful sorcerer (Wizard of Enchanted Mushrooms) once cast a huge magical transformation spell on a dwarven population.
Half the spell failed, for he wanted to transform all the dwarves into elves (hippies).
But half the spell worked alas!
These ugly fat dwarves could only make things out of wood!
"All is not lost Ha Ha!", the (stinky dirty hippie) sorcerer exclaimed!
So the dwelves worked and worked, building above ground and only with wood like good little dwelves should.
The sorcerer watched with joy as his little experiments began to populate and grow.

So did you enjoy the little intro to my community project?
I wrote it all by myself :3.
But anyway, the point of this is to challenge the community to create their own little 'dwelven' fortresses, follow all the rules and act just like elves.
 :D

Then those folks who want to come along and follow this project, will create logs with appropriately sized screenies below. They can be as long as you want, just remember to follow the rules and act like good little dwelves.

I'll keep this post updated with the list of members and info for awhile.
Check back often :D!

(And if you dislike this challenge/project and don't wish to be a part of it please go post elsewhere. This project is strictly for 'fun' (in both forms) and nothing else.)

The Rules (hated but needed):
Your dwarfs may look like dwarfs but remember their dwelves, meaning they are strictly elves in everything but appearance.
Remember, you must always protect all wildlife/plantlife from everything but yourself.
They live in -forest retreats- (also referred to as castles for simplicity's sake).
You cannot make -anything- using stone/ore/gems.
You cannot mine (or have miners) at anytime.
You must -always- build above ground.
Kings are to be referred to as Druids.
Bows, Swords, and Spears are the only allowed weapons.
Your dwelves may only wear wooden/leather/cloth/silk/shell/bone items.
Lying is punishable by exile.
Dwelves currently never settle outside their initial dwelven retreat's forest.
Story-arcs (logs) must be done -every- month to create a reliable plot.
Never make war with Elves, which means try (AS HARD AS YOU CAN) to not anger them.
Miner/Mason/Metal(Anything)/AnythingConcerningStoneOreRock completely disallowed on all levels.
If you get a migrant with one of the above (or more) use Labor Prefs to set him up in a different profession (disabling all skills pertaining to above).
Build -nothing- to do with RockStoneOre.

Remember, you must always protect all wildlife/plantlife from everything but yourself.
Through systematically clear cutting all trees to protect them from being cut down, and foraging all plants in order to protect them from being eaten and killing all animals until they are all safe from being hunted.

Damn right friend.
(Dwelves still possess some morphed attributes from the mutation and transformation from dwarves.)

Would be interested in joining the project?

Sounds familiar...

http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-6873-pointyropes

I just started playing DF and I'm really addicted.
I didn't even know that this had been thought up, but totally possible.
I'd wanted to do it as a storyline arc or split worlds you know what I mean?
Logs/Stories/Fun Stuff.

It was more roleplay based though cause you had to stick to the plotline you know?

Dunno about that one tho it looked mk

I'm pretty sure almost every buildable material has been used in a challenge, except maybe some of the rarer materials like HFS and crystal glass.  Green and clear glass fortresses aren't too out of the ordinary.  I hear people talk about making them a lot but I've never seen any.  I think wood is actually listed as a challenge in the wiki.

Edit: Also this is a good idea but you need to spell out the limitations a little more clearly.  I wouldn't be opposed to starting a new wooden fortress just for kicks.

Shall I sign you up fine sir? I'll try and flesh out the rules a bit more.
Remember to write a detailed log and storyline as you go along =D

I once did a wooden fortress much larger than pointyropes. Took a while to build it, and I had to manage the woodland with quite some care. It was really fun though. I did use stone for paving the roads though.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

Shouldn't dwelves live in the forests in the underground caverns?  Obviously you'd have to dig to get there, or else use a cave, but no digging after that? :D
