Profession Modding

Is it possible to mod the raw files to create new professions? I was thinking I would be cool to have a "Ninja" skill. Not exactly true to the European Fantasy setting, but amusing none the less.

Is there any part of that which isn't covered by existing skills? eg. Ambushing for stealth improvement.

Well, I would like for a dwarf in fortress mode to become a "Ninja", just like they can become a "Woodcutter". I'm just using "Ninja" as an example, it could be anything.

I just looked through all the /raw/object files, and it doesn't look possible. Are professions hardcoded?

Maybe, but why not just change the profession of the dwarf that is to become a ninja by selecting the dwarf, profile, customize, job title.

Or something like that.

Easier then editing raws and you don't have to recreate the world.

Currently you can't mod professions or buildings, unfortunately. However, I think Toady did say at one point that he intends to put everything (or at least as much as possible) in the raws, so that the game can be totally moddable.

Something to look forward to in the future, at least.
