LCS is fun. LCS was fun.

I find the very idea of LCS most entertaining. Few games allow the player to influence the politics with such a broad assortment of tactics. Few games allow the player to create a large secret underground military force that can shut down the city in a single day. Few games pit the player against the very system itself, forcing the player to be most careful when choosing what to do.

However, now it's gone somewhat. I've beaten the game so many times in so many different ways (from a solo martial artist to a liberal newspaper) that I simply don't find it entertaining as a game. But as a concept, an idea, LCS still keeps me very entertained. I still find great pleasure in discussing the game, imagining potential new features, sourcediving... perhaps I'm becoming somewhat developery, enjoying the game's progress rather than game progress. Perhaps I should refamiliarize myself with C++ so I can help more.

It is. There're different tactics. You can be a total criminal and serial killer group or a peaceful man (hard to resist the urge to kill though :) ). There's a lot of factors and the world is pretty detailed.

Quote
what do you do
You try to make the country liberal with your actions. You recruit/free/seduce people to join you and assign them to tasks. There's a lot of things to do (although I wish there was more) :).

And there's no gender. I mean, you can change it by a press of a key. Yeah.

Actually, I think the game keeps track of the conservative definition gender of characters. For example, female-born males may be intercepted by the club bouncers for not being male.

LCS isn't fun.

LCS is a way of life.

Live for Liberalism, die for Liberalism!

...

(yes it's fun. Go play it. It's a satire on cults and revolutions and terrorists and politics)

LCS is awesome once you get the hang of it.

There's a bit of a learning curve.  One problem is that the documentation is spread all over the place.  There's a wiki but it's not 100% up-to-date- and strategy guides are in a similar situation.  Part of that is because the game is constantly being updated, which is awesome.

It's also hard to figure out what exactly you're supposed to be doing.  Let's Play things on YouTube help with that.  I still don't understand the overarching strategy for how to win the game, though.

I haven't played the game much, but right now it feels like getting the absolute win condition is an intense mix of having an incredibly exact strategy and sheer luck. Though the sheer number of ways you can get there (and making it without getting everyone killed) is fun enough.

I see Liberal Crime Squad as essentially a sandbox, with a win condition to entice you to play with the toys. It's not actually likely at all that you will succeed -- you just need to do your best, and explore the possibility space. As you get better, you can apply strategy and knowledge of the game systems to try to win, and eventually you can get good enough to do so reliably, but that's not REALLY what the game is about. It's about the journey. Losing spectacularly the first time you get raided by SWAT teams is a core part of the game experience, especially since you can sit back and go "Yeah, okay... that's what would happen if I really tried this. But I can try to avoid that happening next time..."
