A use for nails and scales?

I recently butchered a critter that left nails and scales, but I've found no use for them so far. Should I just dump them into the atom-smasher like every other junk body part?

You can add a certain line to the scales material (or was it scale tissue?) to allow you to tan them like leather, though it produces [animal] fatty instead of leather or scale, or whatever it should be. Otherwise yeah, like cartilage and hair it has no use.

I have not checked, but shouldn't nails be usable for horn crafts? At least hooves can be used for that purpose.
