TOME4 Released.
« on: May 12, 2010, 07:30:52 pm »

So....apparently development on the game didn't die, and came out with a new version of the T-engine.
Website with feature list (T-Engine) : http://te4.org/
And Actual download link for TOME: http://tome.te4.org/
Well... looks like it could be pretty interesting, going to try it now.?

I tested it a while back... Bad opengl code is bad. It has no frame limit to it uses your cpu all the way to near 100%, which is a big nono for a rogue-like.

How could you have tested it a while back when it was in private alpha ?

Anyway it's not the opengl code that is doing that but the idle function. Which I find to not be a problem but since many people seem to care about their CPU the next release wont do it ;)

Bad wording of my part, actually. Despise speaking english for 15 years, some quirks from my original language kicks in now and then, specially if I'm speaking portuguese at the same time I'm typing english. What I meant was, some time ago, like a short time ago, I think the day before the thread was posted here or something like that.

But that's good, I will try to play it more after it's fixed. My computer runs with cool-n-quiet, so it's practically noiseless and it's easy to notice when something is hogging the cpu as the fans speed up madly. There's also another bug I noticed, it happens when you die, days run by non-stop.

I should go back to the tome forum some time, see if my old acquaintances are still hanging around there. :)

Played for a bit buuut I got a bug while resizing the window, all the sprites were showing up white so it was impossible to see what was happening.

Also would love for an option to disable the music.

Yes some weird bug in the opengl code makes textures go all wonky under some circumpstances :/

Music will be disable-able next version. We'll also add better music :)

I also noticed one thing. I couldn't find a help screen anywhere. So I had to guess most of the commands.

Is that planned or can I get a link to the documentation/help/command list?

Aha. Thanks. I was going for ? and h, which is common in rogue-likes, so I didn't even think about pressing escape. ;)

Man, I hate the snakes. King cobras are probably the main source of my deaths at this point. Though green worm masses on green forest floor don't help much either.

And a cute little bunny, too.

prefer it to the previous version of ToME, mostly because i never found the frikin dungeon in the original. In terms of bugs i havent noticed any, i switched on to ASCII display and ive played three characters, the best being killed by a Cobra.

The interface is probably the most non roguelike player friendly ive come across so far. So far the game seems pretty good.

I haven't been able to get any vomit this release. Not any I can pick up, at any rate.
Swans, too. Swans are complete bastards.
