Removing Skill Rust

I read somewhere earlier about a simple mod that removes skill rust, but can't find the damned thing anymore; Searches come up with nothing. It would be nice if someone could link me to it or repost it here. Pretty please?

Ya that'll get rid of skill rust.

Attribute rust is a little harder. (have not tested this)  You need to adjust each physical and mental attribute.
[PHYS_ATT_RATES:<physical attribute>:500:0:0:0]
[MENT_ATT_RATES:<mental attribute>:500:0:0:0]

physical attributes apparent in dwarves:
STRENGTH, AGILITY, TOUGHNESS
mental attrbutes apparent in dwaves:
ANALYTICAL_ABILITY, FOCUS, CREATIVITY, PATIENCE, MEMORY, SPATIAL_SENSE

There are more I'm sure, but finding the full list is non-trivial.

^^ according to wiki those 2 already don't decay by default, so no need to change them

Okay, maybe I'm just not looking in the right place, but doing a Find for any of the things you guys suggested in all of the Raws, in both the main raw folders and the save/raw folders in my current game, turn up nothing for either PHYS_ATT_RATES or SKILL_RATES. Am I supposed to add these tags in? If so, where, in which file, of which folder? Whatever thread I was browsing last time said exactly what needed to be modded and where it was, but I just skimmed over it at the time.

I've actually seen someone post that even with these tags, attributes will decline over time anyway.

There is some sort of bug that zaps away a percentage of dwarf stats, which eventually cripples them if I remember right.  However, you can improve the physical stats or eliminate rust.  The tag that Derigo posted is slightly wrong, in that you don't use [PHYS_ATT_RATES:STRENGTH:500:0:0:0], but rather [PHYS_ATT_RATES:STRENGTH:500:NONE:NONE:NONE].  Most of the attributes have no task that can improve them, so most dwarves would lose most of their attributes and be worse than useless if you don't get rid of the rust.  Military statistics, such as Endurance, Toughness, Strength, Agility and possibly Disease Resistance/Recuperation can improve since the game has actions that improve them.

Basically, Toady isn't quite done with setting up the attribute soul system.  Try the mental and Skill_Rate's learning modification after the merge and see if it gets better.  I recommend sticking with non-rusting modifications for the mean time for your dwarves.  Here is the wiki section on soul tinkering.

What I'm about to say may be incorrect as I've been in a similar boat with all of you asking, but what I think is happening is people are failing to mention that you will not find these lines in the creature_standard file if you have a unmodded install.  Instead, you have to copy the lines as mentioned by Sabin into the file.  Basically, copy it under the dwarf section but before the caste section unless you want males and females to have different stat growth.  I just did that and everything seems to be working.  Last time I tried copying the lines directly from the wiki.. all my dwarfs turned into gators and were useless.  Now if decay still happens remains to be seen.

They're tokens in the Dwarf creature definition, starting around line 82 of the creature_standard file.

This doesn't seem to work anymore. The relevant line is not in creature_standard. So is there a new way of removing skill rust?

removing skill rust was normally [SKILL_RATES:100:NONE:NONE:NONE]

When did this stop working?
