Shorter place names!
Sowelu:
Okay. Having every single brook on the continent be named is pretty neat. I'd like it if adventurers could name them, and it would be fun if sometimes different civilizations had different names for places, or if some names fell out of use over time. But as it is they're all named and that's fun.But...These names are usually WAY more complicated than there is any reason for them to be!I mean, it's a BROOK. Why does it need to be named "Abbeymuffin-Polkadot the Cloudedknife"? I would be more than satisfied with "Muffin Creek". It sounds better. Way better. Shorter names GOOD. How many places in fantasy literature have names that are more than a couple words long? It's "Rivendell", not "Rivendell the Axechair of Whirling". "Discworld", not "Disc the Forever-Always World of Time". "Mount Doom", not ... you get the picture. In my opinion there should be a HUGE bias for short names over long ones.
Teldin:
I had a major river once called "Catpaddles". :D
Seryntas:
The absurd long naming is one of my favorite parts of DF, though!
BurnedToast:
No kidding, I LOVE the fortress naming feature so I can make all my forts named something really long and excessively complicated.it's always funny when something has a super long name, and it's even funnier when it's something insignificant like a brook.
Zulaf:
The brook near my current location is called "The Boyish quickness". O.o
