Female to male Ratio?
« on: May 22, 2010, 10:19:16 am »

When i was playing dwarf fortress on my PC i noticed a LOT of female dwarves in my fort
I thought that this was just a rarity due to my world gen or something
Well, my Pc Exploaded a few days ago, so i downloaded DF on a laptop i had and made another world (of corse)

In short, still way more female dwarves to male

seems like the ratio is 1:3 being male..any one else notice this?

Actually, yeah I have noticed that I usually have more females than males.  The primary reason I don't like that is because it kinda ruins the naming for me.  I like to name them after my friends and stuff, but instead I have to name them my girlfriend and her friends names.  lol, ah well...

Yeah, i have the same issue, I can see why this is though, probably to ensure that the dwarves can mate and not inter breed.
Just like with the dogs, if you have one male and 17 females, theres a better chance of survival than 17 males and one female i guess....although i dont think dwarves can have multiple partners however...
so yeah
Still dosent make sense ::)

Females use babies as shields, and therefore survive more battles.

While very funny, this is probably the answer, more untrained females will survive than untrained males.

EDIT:: In worldgen battles that is.

This is my totally hardcore mod which makes dwarven women incredibly valuable. You may find yourself excluding them from military or outdoor duties, locking them away in a cloister, having them become legendary weavers and clothiers, and sending your legendary and noble dwarven men, those who have proved themselves worthy, to wine and dine in their golden statue garden for formal balls until they take a wife.

I should probably have my head checked, because I find myself in complete agreement with Nikov.
