The real question is, how heavy/unwieldy is it.

It might be able to be used as a hack/saw/grapple/ruler/knife/scissor/twister/pliers/clippers/sword/axe/canopener/pickaxe/shovel/beercapper/shield/shovel, but if it's pretty heavy, it would be hard to use any of those functions somewhat precisely.

Although, I certainly like the beer bottle opener function of it.
i'd like to carry one into a bar and open beers with it, maybe get into a barfight

And get into prison for manslaughter? >.> You would accidentally murder him twice with that on hand.

The thing that confuses me about dorfs is this. Dorf 1 dies in an avalance or somesuch. Dorf 2 is friends with dorf 3 and dorf 1. Dorf 2 berserks because of his friends death and kills dorf 3. also a friend. W. T. F.
Clearly you've never been drunk.

that's the goddamn drunk's fault for messing with somebody that has a hack/saw/grapple/ruler/knife/scissor/twister/pliers/clippers/sword/axe/canopener/pickaxe/shovel/beercapper/shield/shovel multitool.

I'm just wondering what sort of bars don't open the beers they serve.

Seriously. Channeling, mining, chopping, and then as a shield and bottle opener?
1. Too overcomplicated for battlefield.
2. You lose your shovel - and you lose everything.
3. A set of different tools is more effective just with the tool size. Try to cut wire in a tube or in small hole with this shovel.

And for the chopping/cutting/sawing ability - that's no sense, its standard for marine equipment.

All it needs is a kitchen sink and a gun attached to it.  Hey wait I wonder if we can modify an assault rifle to use this as a bayonet?

That guy who got to show off the bottle-opener function is a lucky bastard.

I want a job where they film me sitting around drinking beer.

Also, using it as an oar is hilarious.

True, but at a certain velocity the resulting explosion expels invader-bits at fatal speeds. You don't want to be dropping trogdolyte-shaped shrapnel bombs into your boneworks.

A dwarven pick is almost this. The only thing a dwarven pick can't do is chop down trees.

I don't see you using a pick as a shield!

Or an OAR

while that thing-a-majig can do all those things... I want to point out, that it cannot do them all as efficiently as their specific-tool counterparts.

the grappling hook function made me laugh though.

When carrying something all damn day, I'd rather have 5lbs of "does most things acceptably well" than 30lbs of "the right tools for the job."

And given the materials and size (relative to a person), I'd toss it in the 5-10lbs range.

Thats what a jack of all trades is. Able to do alot of stuff, but isn't highly skilled at any particular thing.

Military shovels are pretty much battle axes that you can use to bury the body already without the 500 attachments. I remember an old video of aWWI vet being interviewed sometimes between WWII and the korean war, explaining how effective in trenches it was vs the bayonets that the army kept giving them. Apparently, they can puncture helmets if swung at the right angle and sharpened/weighted properly.
