I say we convert some the farm scythes into war scythes. They could be useful. You can cut through a metal helmet with one.
How do they accomplish this. Smelt some to add length to farming scythes?

I think they re-forge the blade to make it extend upright from the pole. Basically make it go from this:

They may be slow but they can work all day and night. We'll have some metal soon.

And those farmers better learn fast if they want to continue their life as a carpenter. We can always use more zombies.
Pretty sure the zombie farmers would be even worse carpenters.

More humans are tasked with this.
It may take a while. it will use up some scythes for the iron, and logs for extending the staff part.

Take a bunch of the underpreforming carpenters (unless we still got spare recruits?), give them a small zombie escort and order them to scout the area. We need information about potential sources of enemies, bodies and other usefull implements.

You don't understand the motivational power a random execution and undead animation of a good buddy has on the remaining workforce.

No zombies are available.

Look we can't be a propper evil overlord if we let our minions dabble, now can we? Plus, the earlier they realize they better learn fast, the faster they learn (or the faster our ranks fill up with zombies)

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this fort any more. Migrants arrive, they die for some reason, the fort is flooded for another reason, then dwarves go mad, more dwarves die and I'm just laughing in my distress.
