Author Topic: Whoa, so that's what turning off "Periodically erode extreme cliffs" does...  (Read 6277 times)

I found a nice place, there's forests, mountains, flux, an obsidian layer, and and a volcano.

The thing is the forests are your regular forest, then it jumps right to the highest type of mountain with no in-between, the cliff is 60 z-levels tall, and only about half way up does it start to recede into the volcano. The bottom half is effectively sheer.

It's pretty cool, and the first time I've ever had this happen.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

That's odd, I usually turn off that option and I never get any sheer cliffs, river canyons exempt. I get cliffs that are almost sheer, with occaisonal ramps, but there's always a path from the top to the bottom.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I just downloaded stonesense, and it's trying to connect to DF now.

I got this in one fortress. I embarked on a coastline with mountains covering most of it and some hills way off in the corner. Since i turned the extreme cliff erosion off and the normal erosion down 50 cycles i got a 60-z (it's actually 21-25 for the initial cliff, 50 to the very peak, sorry) that recedes to a point only at the top, exactly what you described. Except the cliff was right next to the ocean. Would be awesome if I ever go back and begin the mega-project I had planned for it.

I was really hoping to find a volcano on the waterfront. Unfortunately this site doesn't have magma pipes anywhere on it and the magma sea is deep, really, really deep at -100 z-levels from the waterfront, -180~ from the peak of the mountain. If you turned the erosion back to normal it might erode back out to the volcano though and you could conceivably get a volcano on the waterfront like I'd hoped.

I would love to have the original world gen, and FYI Eric Blank, your location png doesn't exist. The picture may not have uploaded correctly or something.

With these maps, we could totally pretend that DF is still 2d.

I hear if you combine them with dwarven syrup you can make rhesus pieces.

Or, you know, do something awesome, like carve a stairway out the side of a shear cliff face, dig out the interior of the mountain, undergrotto-style.

I'm on a different pc right now, but I'll put up the location and world gen asap, but I did notice something before I had to quit, part of the right side is sort of it's own mountain, the sides are pretty close tho sheer, but not totally.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

and i did make a map archive of it, no stonesense.

It'll probably look similar to that.

It's really only 'sheer' for about 21-25 z-levels before it starts sloping away, then the uppermost level is flat with only a couple downward ramps.
My memory was borked, sorry. haven't touched it in a while since it's so laggy and I'm working on a huge wooden tree.
