Building large walls efficiently

OK i am sure someone must have suggested this before and i did a search but couldn't find what i am looking for. I often build my fortresses with a substantial outside construction. I like to put moats and walls around the entrance to my fortress. With constructing walls, would it be possible to streamline the construction by making a wall template to lay down, much like a bridge, that is sized first. Like bride building, the materials and how much needed would be selected in the initial setup. This would save heaps of time and button pushing when constructing long walls. Same building concept is used for pipes as well (just in case I'm not making sense :P)Oh and on a side note, smoothing and engraving of constructed walls would be extremely awesome and useful for when you need to re wall an important room.
