I was pretty surprised.  It was a very small caravan, they only had a few leather and spider silk things to trade, and some tin stuff.  The goblin caravan had more useful things like iron.  At least, I'm pretty sure it was kobold, as their civ popped up as soon as the caravan did.

Just gen'd a map with a volcano, and I'd be a damned fool not to use it for my obsidian-gathering purposes.

Pretty sure that to play goblins, you'll be altering entity tags, which unfortunately means you have to regen a new world. You might be able to replicate it from the seed, but modding can mess seeds up.

Yeah, found that out the hard way. Plain ol' underground magma will have to do I guess.

Oh, uh, new concern.

Vermin. Cats don't seem very gobby, so I need a new way to keep these freeloading bastards out. The obvious solution would be to add [VERMINHUNTER] to something, but I'm not sure what sort of effect this might have. Can I expect anything too out-of-the-ordinary from this tag?

Giving another animal [VERMINHUNTER] will give them the behaviour of cats, they'll hunt vermin but also claim a dwarf as their owner. You wont be able too butcher the ones who become pets. You'll need to manage them if your concerned about FPS. I don't mean to put you off, I embark with cats. You could give them some pet lizard about the size of a cat that serves the same purpose.

cat sized lizards sound good to me.  Or wolves, wolves are totally gobby (well, to me at least), although I guess it would be odd for them to adopt your goblins and act like cats.

I actually made a working goblin mod for 40d. Check it out if you're curious.

Yeah, someone linked me to that before. I used it for a bit of inspiration, but I was hoping to get a better hang on this modding business. Great stuff though! =D

Anyway, I've gone ahead and made Worgs, which are basically smaller wolves with a weak bite attack and, of course, [VERMINHUNTER]. Also you can butcher them for like ten pieces of meat, cuz if I'm gonna have a worgsplosion I wanna make the best out of it.

Hold the fuck up. Kobolds have caravans? What could they possibly trade?

This is an iron cup. All koboldship is of the lowest thievery. On the iron cup is an image of a kobold and a kobold. The kobold is crying. The kobold is in the fetal position. The iron cup menaces with spikes of coldness and alone.

Skull caps, armor made from Bone & Leather, and Bone Weapons.
Also, they might obsess over anything shiny.
