Ah.
I usually use Code::Blocks, not sure how QT-compatible it is...

It can be, but when using QT you're better off just using QTCreator.

(disclaimer: personal bias for wxWidgets via Code::Blocks wxSmith.)

Woah, 1.6 GB. Not enough hard drive space. :P
I'll have to just do some of the utility code then...

@Kamina

I've forked your github repo and started pushing some changes to it:

https://github.com/Ramblurr/lazy-newb-pack-qt

Rather then start making big feature additions or changes right away, I like to get a feel for the codebase by peeking around and fixing warnings and such, which is what I've done so far. Also, I converted the README to markdown format so it looks nice on github.

Once I start making some real changes, I'll send a pull request. If I make any changes that you don't understand or you want me to explain, let me know! I love spreading the Qt love :)

Good job, it looks sweet so far! Also, I added you on Skype!

@Tolyk  What is 1.6 gb?

Edit: Oh you mean the Qt SDK. Yea, that includes all of Qt... which is way more than just desktop app development. It includes everything you need to develop for all the mobile and embedded devices.

You should be able to get by with just the libraries and Qt Creator
http://qt.nokia.com/downloads/downloads#qt-lib
http://qt.nokia.com/downloads/downloads#qt-creator

If you use Qt Creator (the IDE for Qt) you can use the minGW libraries, or if you prefer to use Visual Studio (only VS 2008 is supported atm, unless you want to build Qt from source, which you don't), then get the VS libraries and the VS Qt Addin.

I really need to figure out stuff with GitHub :P
I'll add you guys to the LNP group on Skype
For now it seems like a VB version and a C++ version :P

@TolyK

That's fine I think. The C++ version duplicates the VB version anyways, and is primarily aimed at Linux users, though it in theory should work on Mac OS X and Windows too.

Since there's nothing wrong with the VB version, maybe once Kamina and I whip the C++ version into good shape, you can release a Linux version of LNP? We can provide the executable files for Linux 64bit and 32bit. All you would have to do is replace the .exe with these files, upload them, and then link them in the main topic.

What do you think?

My baby is taking off without me  :'(
But sounds great guys. I can't quite test or help with the current version, as I don't have linux installed to test it with, but I'm liking how you've got it all up on github and stuff.
Ideally, and if I'm following you guys right, the Qt version will (eventually) create a new Windows/Mac/Linux version which can be updated as one thing, and that will stay open source?

Pretty sure the QT version can be compiled on windows directly.

Basically, yeah.
Also, Lucas. Learn one language, learn them all. You just need to learn syntax, then it's fine. I can help :P

P.S. I currently have an insane amount of projects, programming and not, I'll hopefully be done with them by next month.  :P

Hi,
Just wanted to thank you for making the source code aviable. Both deon (genesis) and me (masterwork) are making good progress. We are splitting up our mods into compartments, so that players can select those parts they like, and skip the rest. :)

I was working on a modloader-type thing actually in VB.
We should set up a good API for that...

Oh yeah Toly, I'm actually not too worried about it being in another language. I've learned enough programming to know how programming generally works (done a bit of C, VB, JS, AS2, AS3, etc)

A separate file included in a pack that would say what goes where, what type of mod each file is (i.e. a new civ, a modification of a creature, etc.), and other stuff. Also allow people to make external mods.
...
And I just got an idea. Does DFhack already supply information of the in-game world in a very easily accessible state?

Ah, interesting. A standardized mod format file would definitely be useful. Then you could package a mod in a zip or tar file, with your metadata file, for easily distributed, selfcontained mods.

Re DFhack, what sorts of information are you thinking about? DFHack requires DF to be open and a world loaded before you can query its api.
