So, since I'm reading older posts about manually updating, I thought I'd give this little tidbit:

In the new version, the bat file doesn't care if the folder names are exact, I.E. as long as there's a folder starting with "Dwarf Fortress".
Also in the LNP/graphics folder, folders just need Mayday/Ironhand/Phoebus/Default in them.

If you wanted to manually update to a future (0.31.19+) version you could:
1) Move the LNP folder into the new version of DF and put Lazy Newb Settings 2.5.bat just outside it.
2) (Optionally) download updated graphic packs and put them in the proper LNP/graphics folders.

 If you wanted to distribute the pack you could try simplifying the packs down to their base essentials. There's a new included .bat file in the graphics folder which does this if you put it in a graphic pack folder. You'd want to look inside the bat file and figure out how to use it.

3) Run Lazy Newb Settings 2.5.bat (which will automatically copy over extra files into your DF directory)

The only extra things would be to make sure the keybindings, embark, worldgen are updated/compatible, and change default settings, but you may or may not care about this.

That might be neat. Or it could be a seperate pack, things are likely to be very asynchronous across platforms (different utilities etc)

Regarding V6.0, its currently incompatible with 31.18 -> Dwarf Therapist.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
V6.0 comes with DF 31.18 and a 31.18 compatible Dwarf Therapist.
I just tested DT to make sure it works.

Could you go into some detail on why you can't update DF 31.16 saves?  Are there any work arounds?  Or point me in the direction of what's causing the problem to see if I can manually get around it? 

My current fort is in 31.16 and I'd really like to move it up to 31.18.

The steps are pretty easy. In your 31.16 DF folder, find data/save and there are your saved games. Copy them into the data/save folder in your 31.18 DF folder.

I don't know the details. I'm copying the warning over from Phoebus' thread. I assume save compatibility has been broken, meaning no, you really shouldn't move your save files over.
Edit: Actually it probably means you CAN copy your saves over, but only if you NEVER RUN THE SAVE-GAME UPDATER or it will break the saves! (also meaning you can't change/update graphics for it)

If you are already using 31.18, you could just copy the save files over (See main post "Help: Move savegames to a new version")
If you are using 31.16, you might want to start a new game (or stick with 31.16) if save compatibility has been broken.
