I'm pretty sure the people I made my new year's plans with are ditching me. I should have expected this. It's the last time I make plans with these guys for anything remotely important.

My father played video games from the NES to at least up until Doom came out. He dropped the habit both because I had been born and he couldn't adapt to new controller styles. He still adamantly maintains that NES hand-killers are better controllers than the "mess of buttons" we have today. The newest thing that I got him to play with any regularity was Tekken 3, and a great many weekends were spent upon that.

I remember the first time I played a game so long that I had "lost time". I borrowed a neighbor friend's floppies for Silent Service on the C64, started playing about 8pm or so. My folks went to bed, I kept playing. Cue them getting up about 5:30am the next morning and finding me STILL PLAYING. Good thing it was summer. I repaid the favor by letting him borrow my floppies for Gunship.

I also spent most of a summer playing Pool of Radiance (the original), and the next summer playing Curse of the Azure Bonds. By the time Secret of the Silverblades came out, I was so proficient with the engine (and had my uber-characters to import) that I beat it in a single weekend.

WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED! That wasn't an ending! That was a sequel hook or maybe an endgame plot point. This is by far the worst executed ending of 2012, vidya or otherwise. Why did connor bury the key? It had no significance to him as far as we know, wouldn't he have buried it will Lee? Why show a sequel hook in a game that was supposed to end the trilogy quintet?
Connor was also completely unrelatable. He made stupid decisions at every turn, got told by every single target that he was making shitty decisions and then after that bloody ending we get two completely unnecassary epilogue missions cutscenes that exist only to point out how bloody stupid Connor's decisions were. It didn't help that at one point he went full Adam Jensen. Your dad is a much more interesting character.
I really wanted to like this but I'm glad I rented it instead of buying it. I'd say that the other games only seem better than 3 because of nostalgia but I only played Brotherhood last week.
