I don't distinguish a difference from "afternoon" and "evening", to me it's all the same, and it all ends at midnight, at which point it is "morning".

Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

Sometimes the tournaments in Marvel Puzzle Quest can be fucking infuriating.  Argh...

I get all the way up to #2 and think I'm quite capable of reaching #1... I'm racing along through a very long string of wins.  Then suddenly three extremely unlucky matches in a row.  I use more revive packs in 10 minutes than in the previous two hours, and my characters are KO'd.  The horde feasts on my points, and puts me back down around #40.

Goddamned ants got into a mostly-full bag of sugar that I paid for out of pocket. I'm not sure how long they were in that bag, but I've been noticing tons of them near that cabinet for weeks.

So... I got a new phone. My mom decided to tell my friends to add me. How?  By getting in my Facebook and sending a message to everyone.

Next, she decides to remove my 2,000+ unopened emails so my email looks nicer. By opening each and every one.

Because privacy.
I can only wonder what she was thinking about all those adverts for "all natural" penis enlargement.

It's things like this make me really glad that my parents are tech-illiterate. Of course, that has its own problems when they rely on me to do things that are basically impossible - once, my dad tried to get me to burn CDs with a normal CD drive, to save space on a hard drive that wasn't full, not that he had any reason to be on my computer or require that I save space.

... yeah, afternoon is after noon, but before the sun starts getting really low. From the point the sky starts getting fairly orange until the next day is evening.
Morning: Sunrise to noon
Afternoon: Noon to shortly before sunset
Evening: Shortly before sunset to shortly after sunset
Night: Shortly after sunset to sunrise.

Morning: 06:00 - 12:00
Midday: 12:00 - 14:30
Afternoon: 14:30 - 19:00
Evening: 19:00 - 02:00
Night: 02:00 - 06:00

Basing those on dawn/dusk is kinda silly if you live even somewhat far north - 17:00 is not evening, not even on Christmas.

That depends on the season. Sometimes the sun sets as early as 1600 and sometimes as late as 2100 where I live, and it's only a bit north of Germany.

You can't assign absolute times because they vary by location and time of year. And where I live (not even 45į N) the sun can definitely set around 5:00 PM ("1700" for you military folks, of "17:00" for Europeans) in late December-early January, and I call that evening.

Also, why is "evening" so long and "night" so short? I consider evening the transition from afternoon to night, whereas you seem to think that night is the transition from evening to morning.

Evening is when you're out drink, night is when you're home drunk.

Evening is when you're out drink, night is when you're home drunk.
So, night starts at 7 AM then? I'm basing this on my neighbours.

No wonder things are so grim and dark around here in Russia - for, like, half the populace it's always night!

For me, evening is when I say it's evening, afternoon is when I say afternoon rather than evening. It's not very consistent or useful, but it's very simple.

That system would never work for me, since how I greet people seems to have no relation to the time of day, despite how it may appear.

It makes me absolutely furious that there are people who could ever think this way. It's disgusting.
