Now dad threw the ring down the toilet.

Dammit Frodo, that's not what we meant by Mount Doom!

I think divorce is the right decision in some situations, but solely going by what you've told us, it seems to me both of them just need a vacation from each other for a while.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

My parents separated when I was a wee little lad.
Sure, I guess I missed out on some classic childhood stuff with not seeing much of my dad, but it probably would have been far worse living in a warzone for my formative years with them at each other's throats all the time.

That said, C, I do hope things settle down and get better. :(

Some random tech support managed to instruct my mother to completely bork Internet Explorer 11 so much that the "About" option is greyed out, along with most of the features like ... browsing the internet.

Then the tech guy went all NOPE YOUR INTERNET IS BAD CONTACT INTERNET SUPPLIER PLZ then hung up even though Chrome and Firefox worked perfectly fine. Ugh.

It's not Microsoft tech support, but tech support for a bank (BC) related to their internet banking.

Use OpenOffice Writer, instead. It's an open source alternative to Word that is much, much better.

Word is a heck of a lot better at 80% of the things though.
