Why can't the atheists make up their own version of Christmas already? I hate how pretentious I sound when I say Yuletide.
Festivus for the rest of us?

Apparently I'm expected to go to someone's 'Christmas Dinner' tomorrow. ::)
And I'm supposed to bring alcohol, too- for a social gathering I would rather not even attend. Why the hell do people base social occasions around eating food, anyway? That's something you do so as not to die, not to enjoy yourself. Fuck people.

I know someone else who thinks like this, too. People have to remind him to eat.

Am I the only person who goes to a chuch with good Christmas services? It'll be an hour total, tops, and most of that will probably be thundering carols. I'm actually looking forward to it.

*Shrug* I wouldn't mind going to church for Christmas.
It would certainly beat having to spend hours socializing with people at a *shudder* dinner party.

Just focus on boxing day, think of boxing day, just focus on boxing day...

The church I typically go to mixed in some rock with traditional hymns. Plus free wifi (and they don't mind you using it during services) and a sitting area in the back of the sanctuary.

I really don't mind going.

Yeah, we normally do some contemporary songs as well. For Christmas, though, it's traditional organ and a couple of hundred people singing at the tops of their voices.

The youth group has a pool table and dart board, too.

Yeah, I think the christmas stuff is more traditional (in fact, the choir just got back from singing in Austria), but I wouldn't be surprised if there was still a bit of contemporary in there as well. Don't think their pipe organ proper works, though. Electric/mechanical organs work, but that pipe organ.

And my old/current church (still officially a member, but haven't been in a long time) had a couple of game systems as well as pool and such for the youth.

I've sneezed more times in the past while than most do in their entire lives, I'm pretty sure. My shoulders ache from constantly tensing and releasing and my nose is rubbed raw by cheap tissues (those are all gone, I'm on toilet paper now). There is nothing in the apartment that would help.

I'm with you, Yoink.  I think it's bizarre that an activity which occupies your mouth is also seen as a social opportunity.

There's not many mindless activity that can take long period amount of time, is enjoyable, and doesn't result in you getting sunburnt.

It's a team sport. You eat while your company talks, he eats while you talk. Gotta strategise to win.
