Could the gender thing be moved to its own thread? Bay12 is even worse as calmy discussing this than religion, and I'd like to keep this thread unlocked.

I would like to discuss more on Ocular takeover here than Gender inequality in workplace cause that can go on for miles.

It is a general fact that facebook-takeovers = bad things?
I'd be a bit optimistic saying that making something for general use is a good thing.
...
But I'm also curious if they just bought it over to cut down the competition or whatever rather than let them continue with their original plan (and whether someone proposes buying over your whole company, it is already bought-and not a choice by the company)

I noted this before but for most of the Facebook takeovers, the companies are still operating either on the side or being integrated with Facebook services. I think people should just be more cautious on the news before they think Oculus is going to burn down. Facebook hasn't really come out with a good reason on the acquisition but in a general point they will mostly leave them alone and give them more resources.

If you want cheap VR, you're going to either have to prove its worth mass producing (or something like that), or redefine 'cheap'.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Eh.

I define cheap as not thousands of dollars.

Game Console price IMO is cheap enough for VR at the very least.

Probably wrong though :P

Well the dev kits are right now $350 for the release, Facebook can definitely put in a giant batch order that can bring that price down fast.

Facebook bought out Oculus Rift :(

I was planning on getting one eventually, but now I'm torn. I don't really want to enrich FB further.

Just because it's old doesn't mean it's not bothering someone else now.

I'm personally conflicted on this Oculus Rift thing. It did look cool and going to facebook could be a bad move.

But I also can't use the rift properly anyway, since I have one eye. So the more petty and angry part of me is happy that everyone might get crap instead.

The Oculus Rift has been big news pretty recently, since Sony is trying to copy it but sleeker looking.

You should still be able to use the Rift, i know its pretty shitty with half your vision missing but i mean its still a different experience.
