-snip-

Totally valid rage. but Tiruin raged guys :o

But yeah. I see psychology dealing with the strict mental problems of outside causes of mental illnesses, such as social diseases and non-medical depressions and the mourning process... The not-chemical but totally legit mental problems. This includes DID in my opinion.

Psychiatrists deal with those chemical imbalances like medical depression, serotonin storms, schizophrenia (thank god for spell checking), and other chemicals-are-wrong mental deals. Psychologists refer to them and I consider them specialists.

Psychiatrist are medics as much as your regular surgeon and can prescript you with medicines or operate your appendix in case of emergency as good as say, a dermatologist can.
I don't think I would want to trust a psychiatrist or a dermatologist with an operation on my appendix.

They have the med school experience. They have to in order to prescribe meds. So they can even perform a tonsillectomy. Appendectomy, being a rather invasive surgery though...

Another day, another fight against the impulse urge to quit my job. I still might, I'm waiting for my paycheck this week to see if I can indeed afford both rent and transportation cost($400/month very minimum). Anyway, today, during my break my boss takes over my job and when I come back she practically shoves me out while implying all I do is stand around and wait for the dishes to dry. I am completely fed up with her passive-agressive bullshit that is almost completely directed at me.

I also found out that the reason she told me for cutting my hours - insufficient payroll budget - was total bullshit, since I heard that she hired two new girls, one of whom only showed up for one day, the other never showed up at all. How can you say there isn't enough money to pay your current, decent employees if you can afford to hire two worthless ones?

My work-related Rage isn't quite as bad, but then I haven't done much paid work in my time.

Rage: apparently the guy does/ want me to work today. I don't think I'm going to stick with this job if I never know which days I'm working until 4am on said day.

Did someone mention trans-[humanism]? :V

Now I'm gonna tell people I'm trans. When they ask trans-what, I'll say transhumanist. Flawless plan. Zero chance of offending anyone, ever.
Well, except luddites.

So, for the sake of a class assignment, I've been assigned to defend the British Museum against an African tribe requesting that a religious artifact be returned. Winning this argument should be trivial, and I'm raging because of the reason. As always, the relevant international law is constructed to so favor the authors as to make any pretense at justice a laughable charade. There's no actual merit here, it's basically just, "Well, the UK wants to keep it, and you guys aren't actually a state, so you can fuck right off."

Treaties are normally superior to domestic law, but unfortunately they wrote the relevant UNESCO convention in a way that explicitly permits signatories to legislate their way out of the obligation in many of the cases they're likely to care about.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Always hated those "Defend this position" arguments. As someone inevitably either gets stuck with an indefensible position, or an unassailable one. You want real debate, and entertainment, let people pick their own issues.

In what world are your choices:

a) a long painful drawn out death where you don't have time to find a real practitioner of physical medicine

or

b) that your only medical options are specialist fields like dermatology or psychiatry.

That's what we call a "low probability scenario". I don't really expect to die from appendicitis after surviving the apocalypse.
