Protector IV- A Tower Defense game
« on: June 18, 2010, 01:55:23 pm »

Well, I was on Kongregate a few days ago when I found that the fourth installment of the Protector series was up, so I started it up and ogt more into it than I have with any previous game in the series.

It's similar to a Tower Defense game, but it has several RP aspects to it. There are 46 different unit types, each using one of 5 elements, but your options are limited to the units of the three heroes you bring into battle. Each hero, as well as the main character, has several stats that increase units' efficiency, among other things, and heroes can each be equipped with three of about a bazillion items. There are several quests you can do, both on the main storyline and a random selection of other quests. There are several great references (Snakes on a Plain quest, for example) and the unit names can be quite funny.

Best of all, an item I got today:

I wonder if the ranged combat bonus was a part of the joke.

I think it's a reference to the automatic crossbows from the older version ^^ That IS awesome, I already loved the game but reading this made me love it even more lol

Didn't notice that.

Anyways, Gandalf the Technomancer was one of my recent units. As well as Harry Potter the Trainee.

Did anyone else stare for several seconds at the character creation screen when it first came up?  I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to ride to Calradia...

CALRADIA?! The land of Mount&Blade? Oh man, it's a mix of sorts, isn't it?

Cute game.

Is it just me or does it seem like 90% of everything is weak against either energy or fire?

My basic trainee mages seem to be able to annihilate just about everything. Kind of nice to have a game where magic is actually useful, but with everything weak to energy and lots of flying monsters, I haven't found much reason to use anything else.
