Despite bouts of apathy and frustration brought on by poor artistic skills and horrible framerate the MEGADORF™ is complete. Many dwarves died during this project, primarily during the casting of the beard and the hilarious cave-ins and unavoidable hidden magma pockets which it caused, and the resulting tantrum spiral (for those interested there is a fair sized graveyard in his upper chest).

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE MEGADORF™:

*The MEGADORF™ stands 72 zlevels tall
*The MEGADORF™ has the ability to drink and piss water or magma(but not both at once).
*The MEGADORF™ has room for over 300 dwarves if the rooms were constructed and could easily be self supported out of the farming area in the beard(if someone bothered to irrigate more of it).
*The MEGADORF™ has pump stacks reaching down to a cavern lake and the magma sea which require around 1.5k power which is supplied by ground level windfarm.
*The MEGADORF™ required over 45k blocks, 7k raw stone, and 5k metal bars to build.
*The MEGADORF™ was carved by someone with no artistic talent or experience in three dimensional modeling.
*The MEGADORF™ claimed 65 dwarf lives in its construction and in excess of 200 pet lives.

But lets face it you don't care about that, you want some PICTURES

Map on DFMA(side views are amusing):

The DF folder the map lives in (invasions are off, dwarf speed is at 1 or something similarly silly, there is no military):

If I can manage it a minecraft thingy of some sort, assuming I can figure that stuff out:

In a flash of utter retardation I have decided to build a 100 or so z level tall statue of a dwarf that my dwarves will live inside.

.... you had me at "hello".

As for a program, I've always been a fan of rhinoceros. There's a free 30-day trial. If you're not familiar with the interface, it might take you that long to figure it out its learning curve is a lot like Dwarf Fortress's.

Other than that, MAYBE (and that's a big maybe) Google sketchup. It's very rough (but then again, maybe that's just coming from my experience with Rhino).

Personally, I recommend that you use my own, unique Dwarf Fortress modelling program.
It involves stacking 200 sheets of graph paper.

It might be worth doing in excel. You can make the grid square, color-code thngs, copy-and-paste layers, and ultimately export it as a quickfort CSV.

I love that DF can be accurately modeled through legos. Also, make the water come out the front... You see where I'm going with this?

Do it with Legos!

Better yet, do it with virtual legos.

So I'm not the only one who uses rhino for this stuff?

I use Rhino for everything. I once modeled the bar of soap from Fight Club.

there is an image of the goblin Utes Gozrusrozsnus and dwarves in elf bone. The goblin is making a plaintive gesture. the dwarves are striking a menacing pose.
this image relates to the slaying of Utes Gozrusroz

I did initially try to model it with legos but I ran out, these virtual legos intrigue me. The decision to make him piss mere water was because of the need to drain the beer. I will have to play with all the possibilities for the rear jettison hatch.

I am currently wondering what types of materials I'll need to make it colored nicely. Any suggestions for stone types I will need would be appreciated. Also I'd sort of like to have a functioning farm in the beard, but I don't think farms can be placed on constructed surfaces.

Cast him an obsidian beard. You can muddy it to make farms.

True, but at a certain velocity the resulting explosion expels invader-bits at fatal speeds. You don't want to be dropping trogdolyte-shaped shrapnel bombs into your boneworks.
Only in Dwarf Fortress...

Instead of magma coming out the rear, make it bears...because everyone knows dwarves poop bears.
