I figured it would be good to drop in and say a big THANK YOU!

Seriously, whily "only" sounds and music, it changes the whole experience so much that it goes up with therapist as a must-have.

The achievements is a cute addition too that was not here last time I played.

Indeed, this is splendid!

Added the likes of "|(It is the [0-9]+.* of ((Granite)|(Slate)|(Felsite)).*)" to the seasons.xml instantly.

For some strange reason soundsense and only when using soundsense and using in combination with Dwarf Fortress my audio becomes incredibly crackly and makes popping noises, even when watching a video outside of the program. When i close Dwarf Fortress the problem stops.

I find the voice that declares it's a new season to be really immersion breaking.  How can I disable that one, specifically?  (If it were a lovely scottish lass with a filthy husky voice it might be more dwarfy!)

Incidentally some of the Scottish accents are pretty funny.  I live in Scotland and constantly imagine everyone is a dwarf in disguise.

When will a 40.08 compatible version be released? Getting constant crashes of soundsense during combat.

Er, it "only" reads the gamelog.txt logfile, there is no need to patch soundsense for any new DF version unless that version would change the name of that file or the way it logs stuff which is basically not happening.

Then why does combat and only combat consistently cause soundsense to crash, and how can i stop it?

I notice that there don't seem to be a whole lot of alternative soundpacks floating around.  While the official soundpack is a beautiful thing, I find that its realistic sounds seem to clash with DF's 'retro' look and feel, and I suspect that there may be other people who agree, just as there are people who prefer playing in ASCII rather than using graphic packs.

I would like to submit a stand-alone soundpack of my own for evaluation and criticism, and possibly use it as a springboard for creating an alternative retro-style soundpack.  Although it was originally created for a specific mod, I have tested it in vanilla and have found it to work just as well there.

Try reinstalling the soundpack. It sounds like one of your combat-related soundfiles may be corrupted.

Running on linux, soundSence.sh gives me an error:
soundSense.sh: 11: soundSense.sh: Syntax error: "fi" unexpected (expecting "then")

I can work around this by ignoring the script and setting the classpath manually, but it really should be fixed.

Hia

Thanks to Simon Swerwer, we now have voiceovers for Adventurer / Fortress mode speech.

Right now, it is rather simplified - who would dub all of the 126 variations of dwarf stating his desire to revenge? Also, coverage might be spotty for chat lines that I have never encountered. Thanks to everyone who sent me logs - they are most appreciated.

Feedback to latest pack is welcome!

Also, I was mostly busy with some other Dwarf fortress related tool which will eat most of my free DF related time until it is ready to be released:

fi thing was supposed to work for most linux people. Maybe this is matter of different shell?

Cheers!

I very much appreciate your work on this :-), Glad to see people not only making their own packs, but also sharing them here.

Combat means a lot of sounds at same time - there is throttle to prevent worst, but some soundcard/driver combinations seem not to handle it well.

You can try disabling battle sounds - either in Currently Playing tab, change combo box with Play label for Everything (4) to some lower setting.

Or you can disable combat specifically in Sounds Configuration tab, select any combat xml and click Disable Group button - it should disable combat effects.

I like to make music especially for Dwarf Fortress and Soundsense in my spare time (https://www.youtube.com/simonswerwer, http://soundcloud.com/simonswerwer). Also check out Toadese Language Utility to read and write DF dwarven texts (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=136098). Bang the tankards!

Nice one! Android only, or will it be cross-platform? Java?

Also: can you please fix the problem with the spaces in the filenames? The soundpack download/auto-update is unusable in its current form on OSX. :(

Sadly, I have no opportunity to debug it in OSX so I am afaraid you need to use full soundpack download for time.

And app: Android: its guts can easily be ported, but it is very GUI heavy app and that would all need to be redone for desktop.
