Yeah, its not fully accepted that lead killed the roman empire but the evidence supporting that theory is staggering.They used it for EVERYTHING. pipes, wine vessels, drinking glasses, cooking pots. Roman women used lead dust to give themselves a pale complection. Wine was sometimes BOILED in lead vessels to improve the flavour or something like that.There was one thing they did with it where they put something in a lead container and a chemical reaction produced a sweet tasting substance. I forgot the particulars but said substance is now known to be highly toxic.In time the upper class started showing symptoms of lead poisoning, mostly the difficulty in having children, also lots of madness, nero is a good example.
