Harvesting and Deconstruction as Labors
« on: June 03, 2008, 05:45:00 pm »

Removing constructions, as in tearing down walls and such, is not tied to any labor, consequently there no way to keep dwarves from doing it.  I'm settled with the fact that my skilled mason will run off halfway through a list of furniture to build a ramp, but everyone runs off to remove buildings, and with how long it takes, it can really put a crimp in my economy.  It'd be nice if the Remove Constuction job was a toggleable labor in itself, or linked to Mason/Carpenter/Metalsmith like building the contruction is.

Concurrent to that is plant harvesting.  It's been suggested before, but I thought I'd throw it in.  As is, your only options are everyone harvest, including dwarves with other jobs to do, or only planters harvest.  This would be a great distinct labor for my haulers.  And no, turning Planting on for my haulers and Everyone Harvest off is not a viable option, because I don't want a bunch of dabbling growers returning one plant per seed.
