I'm a Mac user (most of the time) and I have no problem with the interface and have never used a tileset.

Sure. Just havin' a cheap shot at the Mac people :). I'm no big fan of Macs. As far as i can tell, Mac is about the look 'n feel at least as much as linux is about open source. Im sure there are linux guys who are OK with DF being closed source just as much as you are with the UI's shortcomings.
