This is great, but could just possibly make tiles a little taller?
It's... quite hard to traverse your fortress as a dwarf would as you keep slipping through the floor.

Do the tile graphics match up at the edges? They seem a bit uneven in the screenshots.

As for using it to play, perhaps you could reduce the size of the rendered area a deal and whenever the player scrolls it moves several squares at once like in the ordinary game?

I've tried it twice with one of my maps and once with another and got bluescreens for all three.  However, Windows seems to think it's a device driver problem, and I've seen crashes in some other 3D applications, so I doubt it's directly related to your code.  The bit I can see before it crashes sure looks nice though.

this tool is awesome! too bad it doesnt work to good over here  :(

alt-tabbing makes the window disappear, its still down in the startbar, but the actual window is gone. manager to get it back once by entering fullscreen. didnt work on thr 2nd try tho. (c2d, 8800gts)

im on a swedish keyboard layout, i can only change z-slice downward, and only using K ..kinda weird that K works but not L. [] are placed elsewhere on a swedish keyb layout so that why those wont work.

keep up the good work, cant wait for object support!

Absolutely great! Thank you.

Finally I can see what the statue of mayor Shorast Lumullīd actually looks like.

More pictures: http://www.niksula.hut.fi/~kivirtan/df/statue/

Took 10 months to build. The dwarf and the throne are actually different materials.

I must agree, This is a great tool. I have to check what my Lava-flooded fortress looks like now...

This is really nice. It really makes me motivated to create the tower I've been wanting to.

I also noticed a minor problem...

code:
...
^^.
^.

Where ^ are upramps, it doesn't properly render that type of corner.

I can't wait to see this get better and being able to use tile & material information; 30+ story crystal glass towers FTW!

Holy Bananas! As for playing with 3D, that would be kool, but frankly, I don't want graphics to be too similar to AGOB 1. That would be kind of redundant. But still, this is awesome.

ok guys, did some digging in the memory flags. question for you now: would you prefer map_export exposes hidden tiles or leaves them hidden, what's the concensus? =)

Hidden, but with the ability to expose it.

...I just found out I had hell on my fortress. Which means I probably have adamantium as well.   :) I suspected I had it on my map, but I couldn't bother digging for it (had more important projects :P). Personally I didn't mind much being spoiled, but some might.

It was awesome seeing my own fortress in 3D.  :D Great job.

Wonder what Toady thinks about this amazing tool.

I hope he can use it someway. Maybe not integrating it to the game interface but modifying his exporting tools so that they can externally invoke this app to generate the 3d model by passing it the map information aside from the jpgs. Instead of the app relying solely on memory hacks. That way toady could also control which information will appear on the model and prevent it from showing hidden fun stuff.

Anyway, amazing work sinoth!!

PS. Someone go and make a community gallery solely for this stuff or add it to the Map Archive.  :)

This is wonderful. It made it a lot easier for me to visualize my current fortress, Vulgargoat!
