First successful fort!
« on: July 10, 2010, 05:59:33 pm »

Hi everyone.  I just started playing Dwarf Fortress a couple weeks ago and have just now built my first real fort.  No more tutorial fort for me.  I had never struck gems or anything until this fort and now I'm finding them all over the place.

This game is awesome.

Edit:  First artifact  :D  Though it was made by a child.  He is now a Legendary Woodcrafter but it wont let me change his labors.  I'm assuming I have to wait for him to age first?

Just a heads up- afaik, children who become legendary due to a mood only produce objects at "dabbling" once they mature. I think that's on the wiki somewhere, lemme see if I can find it.

edit: Yeah, here it is:

Quote
Children can experience moods. With the correct mood, they will become Legendary (Stone, Wood, Rock) Craftsdwarfs. However, when they become adults, they produce products as if they are of skill Dabbling only.

Under "Bugs", which is listed as being 0.31.03, so it's possibly fixed since then? Who knows.

ah MAN. that sucks, as... sometihng like 80 percent of my forts population are children. statistically they mood more, and while a lot of them die via explosive creativity, some still make it to legendary.

Kinda disappointing.

Well, it just gives you that much more cannon fodder to experiment with!

I guess that's OK since I had to reload a previous save.  The merchants arrived and instead of hitting trade I offered them most of my valuable stuff :(

I see good things in store for this fortress.

Also, this is being added to my "shit that wouldn't happen in real life, but doesn't surprise you when it happens in a video game" folder. (which is itself in my "needs a shorter name" folder.)

"Alright, I'll trade you these mugs, and you'll give me those -Oh. Here. Just take this. WAIT. I DID NOT MEAN TO GIVE YOU THOSE."

Lol yeah that's about how it went down.  What is fail about that is I don't have any artifacts anymore :(  Maybe an adult will have a strange mood now though.

Edit: I tabbed back into DF and an ADULT had claimed the carpenters workshop literally as soon as I posted this lol.
Edit2: Legendary Carpenter ^^
Edit3:  Does he only make masterpieces?!?!?1  My barrel production has skyrocketed.  Nice

I don't think you can trade away artifacts, so you should be fine.

Your carpenter will not make exclusively masterworks. At most, only a third will be masterwork, the rest will be exceptional.

But it will still spam your announcement page.

I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!
