Just as a general FYI - so far, Dwarf Fortress is running just fine on a Macbook, running in a Vmware Fusion Windows XP session. I do have to use an external USB keyboard to play.  This is on the 2.2 ghtz "Santa Rosa" macbook.

I've only been playing for a few (still at 7 dwarves, no real clue as to what I'm doing, etc), but its running fine.

Though, before I go to far.... how do I determine the games framerate?

I'm running it using Parallel Desktop XP Pro on the most recent Macbook, runs better than on my PC

If you go into the init.txt file and scroll down, there's an option to display fps, set that to 'yes' and you'll see it in-game.

I use crossover on my macbook.  Works like a charm.  Plus you can get it for free.

confirmed. i use crossover and it works just fine on my macbook pro

Okay, I was wrong.

I was thinking it was running fine, and was a slow paced game. It isn't running fine in Fusion, its running at around 11-12 Frames per Second. Now, Fusion is incredibly awesome for the stuff I need it for (Office apps, Netware admin tools, some remote control stuff for work, Netware 6.5 itself), but for DF, it sucks.

Anyone have a step by step guide to getting it working in Crossover?

Bootcamp holds promise. I copied the DF folder over to a weaker desktop (even worse built in graphics than the Macbooks GMA X3100) and it ran there at 33 FPS. Still pathetic, but hella lot better than what I've got going.  I would vastly prefer NOT to reboot into windows just to play DF though, if I can avoid it.

I get a solid 60-100 fps using bootcamp on a 2.2 macbook pro.

Macbook Pro has a lot better graphics card than the Macbooks. And Bootcamp is the same as running pure windows. I would prefer to not reboot into bootcamp just to play DF (but will if I have to).
