Ultima Online Emulator-Anyone playing?
« on: July 13, 2010, 02:15:27 pm »

I have tried out several free shards in the last few days, and while UO has some major flaws in game controls and requires lots of grinding, it is fun enough to ask if anyone from bay12 still plays..if so what free shard are you on? I prefer the Stygian Abyss interface, the enhanced client, but am willing to join any server.

lol... last time I played this Shard servers were just getting to the stable point... back when Renaissance first came out.
Can't believe there are still people playing. and they're *not* all on the shard servers.

Hmm, I was thinking about trying one the other day, but never got around to it.

How does UO require lots of grinding?  You can be max skill in melee stuff within a week of casual work.

Animal Taming and Lore are also some of the most powerful things in the game.   And how do you expect a skill that involves standing solitarily [fishing] and repeating an action to not be a grind?

Edit:  To be sure, in UO, as there's no levels, you're not really denied content for being lower skilled.   It's entirely possible to have fun with anyone without being GM in your chosen abilities.

I'd dig it, if we get something set up.

@Capt: Debatable, more to the point..are you still playing and if so where?

There are lots of free servers, too many in fact, so I am systematically going through the ones I think look good, but I have not found one that really stands out so far.

I would play if you can find one that looks good we could take over another game. :D

So, I give DF community two choices. There is an emulator for stygian abyss, called Pandora. Or, we can go to Defiance.

Pick.

What about Angel Island? And what benefits do those two offer?

Well, Pandora is the only Stygian abyss emulator I could find, and looks pretty good. Defiance has a good AOR and AOS shard.

Pandora is pretty good, has lots of players and the forums are not full of drama. I tried this one out yesterday and they have an afk combat training area, already GM swords, tactics, unarmed. I have not explored it too much beyond this, but at first glance it does not look like there is as many areas to explore as some of the other servers.

Defiance also looks good, I am going to log on and recon it.

Angel Island look real old-school, pre T2a so I guess it is a clone of the orginal release but I have not tried it.

Paradise Found is the server I have liked the best so far, but it is pvp restricted and is not Stygian Abyss

I vote for Pandora or Paradise Found.

Did not care for Defiance that much, it is missing too much land mass and too many dungeons.
