Procedural Structures

PTTG??:
(ignore this area)Procedural structures definition in raws. That is to say have the ability to describe volumes, shapes, materials, and so on. This can be used in a number of ways:
-custom town design: Describe boxes with furnature in them.
-Big Trees: real trees should be up to four or even more tiles acrost, six or more layers tall. Moreover, they should have some randomness in the design. This allows for each tree seed to reference a tree design.
-Natural Features: small-scale natural features of an area, such as a gourge or an odd stone pillar in the desert, these could be described as well.(/ignore this area)The advantage to doing all of these this way instead of hard coading is twofold; one that it alows much more modding potential, and two is that this allows for random generation of structures in a more realistic and thurough way than currently.*Blarg* that was poorly written. I need a nap. Let me clear that up: The basic thrust should be that a user can simply enter a few simple lines in the raws, say [Add_Volume:cylinder:3:3:6::0:0:0::0:0:0::Steel] to create a cylindrical shape with a x and y diameter of 3 and a hight of 6, with 0 rotation on all axises, and centered on the center of the structure, and made of steel bars. Using other basic shapes and perhaps some more complex shapes like mineral veins or tree branchings, an arbitrarily complex shape can be described. Other examples of procedural calls might be:
[Subtract_Volume:cube:5:5:1::0:0:0::0:0:-2] would create a 5x5, one story tall void two layers below the center of the object.
Probably roation would have to be in 90s, but it might be capable of drawing jagged-edged lines at an odd angle.[ June 08, 2008: Message edited by: PTTG?? ]

Tamren:
Multi-tile trees would be somewhat confusing since the dimensions of squares are not defined. But even if that wasn't possible, multi Z level trees that you can climb and build houses in would be sweet.

Warmist:
love this idea and the possibilities it brings. For example you could create a new race with totally different architecture, or field full of strange pillars(where dragons live).

Thassa:
That's not an official estimate.  Currently tile size is kind of abstracted, since  many very large items (creatures mostly) and collections of items (piles of stone, other dumped items) can fit in a single tile.
